Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn

How to read the quest tables listed on the above pages:

All XP listed on the tables are for quest experience only. Experience for killing is not included in the amounts or total amounts. If a quest requires someone or something to be killed, and the only experience reward is the XP for the kill, that is not included on the table.

There are five types of quests: Required, optional, stronghold acquisition, stronghold quest, and NPC. The required quests are those you must do to complete the game. Optional quests are just that: optional. The remaining three types of quests are special variants of optional quests. Stronghold acquisition will allow your PC to acquire a stronghold based on his/her class, which, following acquisition, will give you stronghold quests. NPC quests require the NPC associated with them to be in your party in order to get and complete the quest, with a couple of exceptions. These exceptions are noted as footnotes on the page with the quest. In many cases, the NPC may need to be in your party for several game days before the quest will activate.

Any asterisks or differences in font color that you see on the tables is explained at the bottom of the page, so scroll down until you see the explanation.

I don't yet have a separate page for tips, so I will mention a couple of them here:

  • When you finally rescue Imoen from Spellhold, you will be stuck in a labyrinth. Only Imoen and Yoshimo will not be stuck in the labyrinth permanently if you dismiss them. All other characters will be doomed to spend the rest of their lives there if dismissed. What this means is, that if you intend to add Imoen to your party at Spellhold, and you are running a full party of six characters, then Yoshimo should be one of those six unless you want to condemn someone to staying there (you cannot come back). Yoshimo's ability to get out is related to his NPC quest, which gives quite a lot of XP, so it's worth it to take him for that alone. Imoen's ability is just because the developers knew a lot of people would be stuck at this point with having to dump someone.
  • You will virtually begin the game with a Ranger and a Fighter/Druid. This may not make a difference to you in the choice of character class for your PC, but it made a difference to me. I made a druid for my first run-through and was quite disappointed to find another druid immediately.
