Part of the role of being club captain is attending league meetings on behalf of Rowner Cricket Club. Jason Hoskins attended the Annual General Meeting of the Hampshire Cricket League on Thursday 10 February 2005 and writes......

Very Brief Summary of Hampshire League AGM - 10/2/05 :

Well you missed a rip-roaring night, well for driving on the M27 anyway.

Points that will impact us this season are as follows (these are in non-excitable order)

1. Duke cricket balls will be used for another four years, with price likely to remain the same or minimul rise (as the commitee put it).

2. Team sheets MUST be exchanged (passed to the Umpire - "What's an umpire I hear you ask") and kept for three years, yes three years. This is all to do with Insurance purposes.

3. New rules adopted for rain affected matches. Using the "Bodchit and skarper" scoring system it basically means that it is not so easy batting second as you need to score more than the asking rate. I will explain at next meeting.

4. Age groups u15 and under are now permitted to play for one other club during the season (in regard to League). The idea is to get youngsters who want a game on a Saturday but are not able to get a game having the option of playing for someone else. This blew into a half hour debate and to be honest I was suprised it was passed as there seems no structure to rights and wrongs of this. However it was passed so this could affect any Rowner colts who feel they do not get a league game on a saturday.

5. Finally the BIG DECISION. Bob Marchant spoke for twenty minutes trying to persuade the ban of overseas players. Locks Heath perked up saying their side had benefited greatly from foreign imports and was built around their youth set up in the first team, from which I coughed loudly and said and 80% of Rowner players. Then everybody moaned again for forty minutes, the vote was 44 for the motion and 79 against. So overseas players are again allowed to play. Also it was voted against this being discussed next year so it means overseas players will be allowed until at least 2007 season.

After this I left along with about 50 others.

Regards

Jason Hoskins
