Chess
Odyssey Summer
Camps 2005
for girls & boys ages
7-19
We look forward to
seeing you at camp this year!
The spectrum of Chess Odyssey campers runs from those just getting started with chess, to much more advanced players with extensive competitive experience. Instruction is led by National Master Pete Prochaska and his great team of assistant instructors. Teacher/student ratio is normally between 1:8 and 1:15. Although the age range is 7-19, if you have a child slightly younger than 7 who is already fairly comfortable reading and writing, feel free to contact us regarding the possibility of making an exception.
The camp schedule incorporates the following key components: practice games, learning activities, teaching time and formal competition. Periodic free play time at breaks is also built into the program. Campers are flexibly divided into appropriate groups based on consideration of developmental stage, experience and playing strength. Every student plays a serious tournament game each camp day and subsequently receives feedback from our teaching master and/or his trained staff. Via a structured program of positive reinforcement, including "catching students in the act of doing positive things," campers earn Odyssey points towards various ribbons, medals and special prizes.
Chess Odyssey campers enjoy making new chess friends, as well as spending time with old friends, in a fun environment which includes those perennial favorites: speed chess and bughouse tournaments!
