Our friend
Ulysses
(pronounced Yoo-lis-eez)
In the center of our logo you'll find our mascot...a bulldog named Ulysses. He is named, of course, for the ingenious and courageous hero of The Odyssey. It is equally appropriate that he is a bulldog. The bulldog's assertive stance is the living embodiment of the maxim, "It's not the size of the dog in the fight; it's the size of the fight in the dog." That tough-minded determination is a core attitude of a strong chess player.
For all that determination, however, the bulldog is also revered for his loving disposition and his ability to get along with people--both kids and adults--and with other dogs. Bulldogs can be playful and fun, as well as tough and serious. And so Ulysses also symbolizes the fun and lighthearted aspects of our program, which are every bit as important to us as serious competition.
Ulysses enjoys offering a series of challenges designed for fun, increased knowledge and honing of skills. Are you prepared to take on Ulysses' Challenge?
