Circle of Radiance Charter
Serve and be served, Honor and be honored, and bring radiant light to wherever there is darkness in Norrath

This Charter and all parts thereof are a living document. As such they are subject to periodic revision to better reflect the needs and desires of the guild membership. This revision of the Charter contains additions from other members and information selected from other existing Guild Charters to help form the foundation of whom we truly are.

Let it be known that in the month of February in the Common Year of 2001, the Circle of Radiance was founded. This guild was the sole vision of a wise and farsighted wood elf druid by the name of Alashar Spiritwalker who saw much evil, misery and sadness in the lands of Norrath and pledged to combat it. Under the leafy emerald canopy of the mighty tree city of Kelethin, ten brave adventures gathered to swear an oath of fealty to this new guild and it's noble cause.

The "FOUNDERS" included
Alashar Spiritwalker
Carrilynnae Wiztankboomsit

The current members of the Circle of Radiance are banded together in a common cause. This is to become, both as individuals, and members of an adventuring party the best and most talented players we each can be. We have all seen actions and individuals that either hurt or helped a party. We gather together talented players to group, seek or provide help, and call friend.

The Circle of Radiance is not just a guild but is at its core, a group of adventurers that enjoy each other’s company and enjoy doing things with and for each other. We are not interested in being the biggest or the highest-level guild on Luclin. We are interested in simply having lots of fun while doing and seeing new things and exploring new places. We help one another as much as possible and never put each other down. As a guild we can overcome any obstacles the world of Norrath offers.

Circle of Radiance is not about loot or levels. We are about tackling challenges and becoming better and stronger with each challenge we overcome. Circle of Radiance is not just a raid-oriented guild, but we enjoy getting the entire guild together and having fun.

If your primary focus in playing Ever Quest is to get loot and soloing, then Circle of Radiance is not for you. If your primary focus were to have lots of fun with friends, then we would gladly welcome you among us.

Strive to be a talented player. Not all of us are the most talented players right now, but we all share a common belief in its importance. Learn from others who are more experienced than you, and always take the opportunity to share your knowledge with those less learned than yourself.

Errata

  1. VISIT THE MESSAGE BOARD: Visit the message boards and home page at least a once a week to keep up on guild events and news. All information, including raids and new members will be posted there. If you do not know the current password for the members section please contact an officer in game or e-mail Bordaaf

  2. CALLING MEETINGS: Anyone in the guild has the right and ability to call meetings, events, and raids. That's part of what the message board is for. Everyone is able to post there, and is more than welcome to do so, our allies included.

  3. BE ACTIVE: Take an active part in the guild. Take time to group, or just chat, with your guild mates; make an effort to know as many as possible. If you are grouping, see if anyone in the guild has a suitable group for you, or give others the chance to join yours. To do this well means staying out of anon mode most of the time. When you are not in game, make an effort to communicate with others, or at least the guild leader, so everyone stays on the same page. Write and respond to emails, spend time at the guild Website and message board, find a role you can play in the guild other than just being a player (i.e. webmaster, historian, recruiter, event planner, treasurer, moderator, etc).

  4. USE of TAGS: Please refrain from going anonymous. People who can cast SoW, Resurrection, Teleport, Bind, or Clarity are quickly bombarded by requests in populated zones. If you need to hide your level/class/race from others please use the /roleplay command so the guild tag is still visible. This is to help spread word of the guild and allows other members to see when you are online. I would urge everyone to use /roleplay if necessary, but to stay in normal mode most of the time, it is much easier to find a group among other things if you can see where and what level the guild members currently are.

  5. GROUP WITH GUILDMATES: To encourage a tighter, friendly guild structure, we encourage everyone to group with fellow guild mates as often as possible. This does not mean you can only group with guild mates just that you please do so whenever possible.

  6. GUILDCHAT: The guild chat channel is a great way to stay in touch with your fellow guild mates but it is not to be used in any way to demean others or to gripe, moan, and complain. If you need to do such things, find another outlet. Please refrain from any comments that may be construed as offensive to your fellow guild mates. Lets keep it 'clean' for all. We are all here to have fun and for some of us it is a way to de-stress from things in our real life. No begging for power leveling in guild chat.

    Acts of Kindness
Top Errata Acts of Kindness Code of Conduct Trade Skills Twinking Voting Procedures Guild Invitations Recruiting The Membership Looting

These guidelines apply both within the guild and without. In general, the Circle of Radiance prefers that no member charge fellow members for buffs, teleports, etc. There are exceptions:

  1. The service requires components. For example, the Rune series those enchanters can cast. Charge enough to compensate the cost of the component and then a little extra for having to go get another one.
  2. The service requires personal cost. For example, travel to a different zone for a corpse recovery.
  3. We have no set min/max fee allowed for a service, so charge all you like, but again please make it reasonable. We are not a guild of merchants and have no desire to be viewed as such.
  4. The guild may upon occasion set up an Aid station to meet and greet new people. All monies gained from such, above the cost of components, will be sent to the guild bank for purchasing raid supplies.
  5. Please note this guideline does NOT cover trade skills.

Sometimes we are just not able to help one of the others for whatever reason, but if it is at all possible for you to do so without seriously hindering yourself, by all means do so! When dealing with your guild mates, it is expected that you will cast (sow, bind, etc) on them if they ask and it is reasonable to do so. Take time every once in awhile to help out other people, and always keep an open mind when they need you.

Your current group comes first, in all situations. No one is expected to ditch the group you're with because someone in the guild needs a teleport. That means if you ask one of the members in the guild to perform an action, and they can't, that's the end of the discussion. There will be no badgering, harassment or begging of the members who are capable of teleports, buffs, resurrections etc. Guilds fall apart because of this problem. Asking once is fine but do not continue to do so if you are told no. All of us are busy at times and can't always run to help others, keep that in mind when asking.

If you are the one in need of a special service, recognize that a character performing such a service is facing some downtime. Please offer to compensate them for their actions on your behalf. Remember the 45 minutes they just saved you cost them 15 minutes of their own playing time.

If a fellow member is in need of your assistance and you have the opportunity to assist, please do so. On the other side of the coin, if a fellow member is tied up in a group or getting their assistance would put them too much out of the way, then please understand and do not harass them. This points directly to respect and courteous behavior consistent with Circle of Radiance desires.

Repeatedly asking for TPs, PLing and items, in other words begging, is not to be done by any member of this guild. Such conduct can be grounds for discipline up to and including disbanding the offender.

Code of Conduct
Top Errata Acts of Kindness Code of Conduct Trade Skills Twinking Voting Procedures Guild Invitations Recruiting The Membership Looting

These guidelines cover your actions in game as well as any message boards that you may post on using your guilded character and/or the Circle of Radiance name. Each member of the Circle of Radiance's actions shall reflect the knowledge that he/she represents the guild as a whole, and must comport him/herself is a manner reflective of our sacred virtues.

Guild Guidelines

CONDUCT GENERAL GUIDELINES
Each and every member of the Circle of Radiance will be required to uphold a certain standard when it comes to conduct inside and outside of the guild. Our guild is more than any one individual. It is a collection of all members and each member embodies the heart of the guild in each and everything they do. In no particular order, each member of the Circle of Radiance should abide by the following five codes (in no particular order since they all are of equal importance):

  1. RESPECT: A simple term that is well known and easy to understand but at times hard to accomplish. Respect for your fellow guild mates and respect for those not within the guild shall be no different. This includes even those we do not like. Use of the guild name to berate or badmouth anyone is not allowed.

  2. COURTEOUSY: With respect comes courteousy. Please refrain from any negative activity that could be construed as offensive by someone else. This would include using excessive profanity (we know that an occasional slip can happen in a heated situation), inappropriate emotes, intentional training, Kill Stealing, begging, habitual looting, greed, rudeness, and unfair dueling will be greatly frowned upon and may results in punitive action.

  3. EQUALITY: Each and every member of the Circle of Radiance has equal standing with every other member. Every voice has equal weight on guild issues. No one will be censored for his or her opinions and no one should feel as though they cannot speak their mind. We will treat each member this way and expect that everyone else to do the same. We do have a Guild Leader to act as the final say in the event of division, yet we want and expect active participation of the members in all matters that concern them.

  4. LOYALTY: Please take into consideration the needs of the guild at all times. This does not mean giving items or money or anything like that. It simply means helping when you can. If a fellow member is in need of your assistance and you have the opportunity to assist, please do so. On the other side of the coin, if a fellow member is tied up in a group or getting their assistance would put them too much out of the way, then please understand and do not harass them. This points directly to respect and courteousy.

  5. FUN: Ever quest is a game and it’s important to have fun in any game. There are so many things to do in Ever quest, so many things to see, and so many people to meet. We enjoy doing all these things and generally find it fun to do them with friends. So, each member must have fun...no exceptions!

CONDUCT SPECIFIC GUIDELINES

There will always be a few that do not follow the spirit and intent of a general guideline, for those among us we have added in these specific guidelines to lend clarity. This is also helpful to read if you did not fully understand the general guidelines. Any and all of the following may result in guild reprimand or worse. Certainly habitually performing these actions will result in being removed from the Circle of Radiance.

  1. Kill Stealing is not accepted. Do Not Kill Steal! If you are purposely taking someone else's kill when you know you don't deserve and didn't earn it, you are kill stealing, and it is a bad player trait. As our purpose is to develop good players with excellent reputations, this obviously goes against the grain. Each time you do this or any of the other negative action it stains your character and the reputation of the guild, at least a little bit. We do not wish to be known as a guild of kill stealers.

  2. Training is not accepted. We do not intentionally "train" others, if you do not know what this means then you are probably not guilty of doing it. Training is the act of gathering mobs into a quote "train" and leading them across another individual or group, often resulting in their demise. At times you will have more mobs then you can handle. Acceptable behavior would be to /shout or /ooc "TRAIN TO XXX ZONE" or "TRAIN TO XXX GUARDS". This lets people in that vicinity prepare themselves or vacate that area. When enroute to your escape point, use due diligence to lead your train around groups and individuals so they do not draw the mobs attention.

  3. We do not beg. EVER! Begging is more than just asking for coins. It can include asking for equipment, scamming for free gear (by hiding good gear in the bank and then begging for any gear to help you), repeatedly asking the same person for Teleports, Buffs, Resurrections, Assistance on a corpse recovery etc. The rule of thumb is it is ok to ask once, but if they say no that is it, find someone else or deal with the situation in another way. Also please do not overuse /shout or /ooc for this. If you get no response in a zone after 5 requests, stop asking for at least a bit.

  4. Habitual looting is a poor character trait showing greed. Do not take all the groups loot. In the Circle of Radiance we like for all members to share loot with their group mates. Our favorite method of loot distribution is /autosplit on (for coins), alphabetical roster to loot kills and /random 100 roll for the really good loot items. Not all parties or members wish to loot. Ask when you join a group what their looting system is, if they don’t have one then suggest ours. Otherwise you may find that some members of the group are getting most of the loot and others are left out. In no case are you to be the person looting all (or even most) of the kills, unless all other members have declared they have no wish to loot.

  5. Harrassment is never tolerated. Do not harass anyone! This is includes begging after being told no, directing disparaging remarks toward or about another in any chat channel (shout, ooc, say, guild), and hanging around to try to force anyone out of a camp so you get better loot. This is one of those actions that may result in immediate removal. The Circle of Radiance is guided by the ideal that we make our surroundings better just by being there, harassment has no part in this.

  6. We treat everyone with respect no matter race/class/level. Role-playing is not an excuse. Treat others as if they had just done something nice for you. Show respect and courtesy to all.

  7. We do not participate in arguments in /shout /ooc. Doing this is poor conduct. Just let the issue drop and move on. Most folks arguing in /shout or /ooc simply have their fun by making others feel bad. Ignore them and they will go away to find a more responsive target. If they keep harassing you look for a guild tag and report them to our officers and theirs. We will take steps to rectify the situation.

  8. If you don’t have anything constructive to say... During GM Events and formation periods of Guild Raids (our own and the others we are invited to) we remain silent unless we have something to lend to the spirit of the event. In no way will harassing comments toward GM’s and/or NPC’s or Event organizers be tolerated. In general the quieter the crowd is the quicker the event/raid proceeds. Remember that for every event/raid someone has put forth great effort to get it organized, show them respect and allow it to proceed.

  9. Dueling was meant to stay between two people. If you accept the opportunity to duel then keep it between the two of you. Do not involve friends and/or guild mates in buffing or healing you. Use your own equipment and accept the consequences if you lose. We prefer that this be for fun and only be used to resolve differences as a last resort. Care must taken in dueling -- level and class must always be revealed by a Circle of Radiance member. Dueling shall be considered an appropriate method of conflict resolution, providing both sides agree.

  10. We do not kill guards. Sometimes the guards want to kill us. Avoid these situations by /con before you approach too closely. Newbies rely on guards to save them in heated moments, and we wish them to have a chance to do so. The killing of city guards, upon whose presence the youngest of all in Norrath depend for survival, shall not be tolerated. Exceptions to this rule would be the slaying of corrupt guards, farmers, and others of their ilk -- role-playing shall NOT be an excuse for the killing of guards or merchants (e.g. Iksar shall not kill High Elf guards on the precept that they hate each other regardless). While these things may well be acceptable within the larger world of Norrath, we are a select guild and must hold ourselves to a higher standard. If you must kill a guard as a part of a quest, be prepared and bring someone to serve the guards function until it respawns. We also ask that you warn the zone first in /shout ex "I John Doe am here to kill Guard ABC for a quest, Jane Smith will stand near the guards location and fulfill his duties until he respawns". In much the same spirit (without the same consequences), we do not wish for you to kill the wandering innocents (merchants, bankers, citizens etc) of an area unless a quest is involved.

  11. Resolve your disagreements. There is a difference between heated discussion and an argument, please try to avoid the later. If you have issues with other guild mates try to work it out amongst yourselves first. If need be ask an officer to help. If any arguments are brought into the guild channel you are requesting an officer to intervene and both parties may be held accountable. Officers have final say any guild chat argument. If you feel the need to go above an officer please contact the Guild Leader (Bordaaf) , Guild Second (Carrilynnae) or any Officer the next time you see them. If an Officer makes a decision regarding the disagreement, you will yield to their decision until such time as the Leader or Second is able to make one. Ideally, try to always be mature, logical, calm, work through disagreements with others through conversation, not /ignore. Someday we would like people to see our guild tag and immediately think "Oh, that guild is great, their members are the best to group with!" We want people to seek us out when they need a really good group for a hard hunt. This continuing climb to excellence is a primary goal of the guild as a whole.

  12. D00d Speak. There is no rule forbidding it, but it drives many members nuts. Try to refrain from it as much as possible. Using d00d speak (and unflattering terms like Dr00d) fosters the perception that we are a bunch of 8 year olds with an attitude problem. We welcome younger members if they are mature, we never welcome bad attitude from anyone.

  13. Role-Playing is fine. There are some here that do enjoy role-playing so please do not take offense to someone that is. We all come here for different reasons, some to role-play, and others to take out our everyday frustrations on the poor innocent mobs that we slaughter. Those who choose to role-play are not to be treated any different then any other member. Role-playing is never an excuse for bad conduct though. Lastly please remember that this is a game.

  14. Repeated complaints, regardless of source, shall be treated most seriously by the Guild leadership. All members of the Circle of Radiance are expected to reflect honor upon our guild name. Any action which diminishes this honor is inappropriate, and shall be considered an abuse of membership. Members who do not desire this responsibility shall still be welcome, but may find themselves more comfortable elsewhere. Regardless, membership in the Circle of Radiance carries this responsibility, whether an individual agrees with it or not, and all members (including officers) shall be held to the same standards. None of this Code of Conduct shall apply to non-affiliated alternate characters. All of it shall apply to actions out-of-game (including but not limited to bulletin board postings and comments on websites) actions, which both are public and allow any form of connection to our guild. This includes the use of the name of an in-game character that is affiliated with the guild (e.g. a signature including any member's name). However, at no time will this Code apply to any person who is not affiliated with the guild.

Trade Skills
Top Errata Acts of Kindness Code of Conduct Trade Skills Twinking Voting Procedures Guild Invitations Recruiting The Membership Looting

We have many brothers and sisters practicing a variety of trade skills. They put a great deal of time and effort into this. Please do not harass them to make you a particular item or for faster delivery of a made item. Please exercise proper respect and courtesy whenever making contracts for trade skill items. Agree upon price and conditions before any attempts take place.

Those in our guild are not expected to make what they can for Free. It costs a great deal of money to master a trade skill (think if you had to pay 2pp every time you tried Sense Heading from day 1) and they deserve to be compensated for it. If you have the means throw in a tip upon successful completion of the order to show that you appreciate their time and efforts.

The Circle of Radiance asks its members to charge only for the cost of components, the inconvenience of gathering said components and a small surcharge to factor in the failure rate when setting their prices for the guild. An acceptable alternative is for the requesting member to gather all components and deliver them, and accept the chance of failure for a particular attempt. If you choose to do this please discuss the difficulty level with the craftsman and understand that even attempts at the trivial level can fail. In no instance is the craftsman to take a loss on items made unless they agree to ahead of time. Things that are extremely difficult to make and involve a lot of failures naturally are going to go for a higher price ex. Fine steel armor, platinum jewelry, etc.

When pricing for those not in the guild (or our allies), please strive to keep your prices at competitive market rate or lower. We are not a guild of greedy merchants and have no desire to be seen as such. We as a guild will never set or punish you for any set price. It is your side business not ours.

EQUIPMENT: We have no policies for or against "twinking". We ask that good items you cannot use be donated to the guild for distribution if, and only if, you do not need the money from sale of these items. If you gain an improved item during a raid (guild or ally sponsored) then we expect you to turn over the no longer needed item for distribution from the guild bank. If you get a donated item as an upgrade, then you also expected to donate the old item to the guild bank. Items gained on raids and/or donated will always be listed in the Loot Forum for all to see and the member that gets the item will be posted also. This distribution will always be done with the needs of the guild as a whole in mind.

If you come across a piece of equipment you know a guild mate is looking for, then please purchase it and resell to that member with no markup.

The Membership
Top Errata Acts of Kindness Code of Conduct Trade Skills Twinking Voting Procedures Guild Invitations Recruiting The Membership Looting

The People. The reason for everything we stand for and everything we do. The People are responsible for their actions. The People will be responsible for communicating to the officers any concerns or suggestions. The People make or break this guild and are responsible for maintaining our High standards. You will be judged by everyone you meet. Please maintain the Honor and Respect we stand for to make this guild the very best in Norrath.

OFFICERS
Officers, as with all positions of power, are beholden to that power as it is given to them. Officers in the Circle of Radiance are both chosen and voted in because they are the representation of decisions that wish to be made by the members, not because they wield power in any particular manner. Officers and their roles: Any group system, anywhere in the real world, has a system of governing in place to 1) protect the people from outside forces that would do them harm (including harm to the system) 2) protect the people from inside forces that would do harm to other people.

The officers in the guild have been chosen more for their judgment in dealing with people and their available playing time than they have been for experience with the game, or time with the guild. The officers do a number of additional responsibilities outlined elsewhere in the Charter section. An officer may be asked to recruit someone at any time, provided that no objection is raised against the person being invited, and provided that the conditions for recruiting have been met. If someone has a valid reason they don't want someone in the guild, it will generally be honored.

The officer is given a higher rank to command respect of those who wish to challenge the system and to be there for anyone who has a legitimate complaint. A system, like a guild, would not work if everyone were on an even level. Who would anyone be able to turn to for help. Who would be looked up to and respected. Who would set the examples everyone else should follow. Would you make the Guild Leader the one EVERYONE goes to when they want to talk to someone in a higher position and able to do anything about problems? It is not possible for everyone to have the same rank. Everyone CAN be equal though. It is not and will not ever be a club to exclude anyone else in the guild

Officer rank is not a privilege or a status symbol; it is a job with heavy responsibilities that involves some emotionally draining tasks. Please understand that the officers of the Circle of Radiance are here to have fun too. As such members are asked to try to resolve disagreements and look at other ways out of difficult situations before calling for an officers help.

Officer Responsibilities
Officers are NOT free to remove guild members, removing anyone without just cause and logs to back it up will result in demotion and possibly expulsion unless special circumstances dictated otherwise. In general, if an officer feels someone needs to be removed, they must contact the Guild Leader or Second first and explain the situation. Someone from the leadership will discuss the situation with the guild member in question. First, that makes sure that our leadership knows what's going on. Our officers are asked to give assistance where it is needed and when they are able, whether that involves going to help a guild member in trouble, or helping another guild member camp an item, really anything needed by a guild member.

The officers have a LARGE responsibility and many hard tasks to include:

  1. Deciding the fate of a potential guild member
  2. Maintaining the system and the order of the guild.
  3. Public relations of the guild.
  4. Responsible for any of the individual members negative or positive actions.
  5. Consider any requests or listening to any demands made by fellow members.
  6. Meet out punishments (verbal counseling) for minor offenses and rewards.
  7. Make known the decisions of the Leadership to the members.
  8. Make known the members needs and desires to the leadership.
  9. Held accountable for their own actions and those of their guild.
  10. Inviting and greeting new candidates.
  11. Ensuring all guild Charter and Policies are followed in their spirit and intent.
  12. Monitor and moderate Guild Chat while they are in-game.

Selection of New Officers
All new officers chosen will be submitted in the following manner.
  1. Each house will look at their membership role and choose from among the members (by popular vote) one candidate.
  2. Each house will submit their candidate to the leadership
  3. The leadership will select from among the five candidates the one worthiest of becoming an officer.
  4. The leadership decision will be influenced by:
    1. Candidates willingness to help others
    2. Time available in game
    3. Decision making abilities and good judgment
    4. Current and past representation of the guild as a whole
    5. Current and past level of activity to support the guild

We feel that this version of representative democracy is the best method to pursue new officer appointments.

Our goal is to keep a 1 officer to every 6 member ratio. Note only mains count as members and only mains may vote in any elections or voting matters. Alternate characters will be assigned to the appropriate house, but will never be given a vote or advanced as candidates

OUR FEARLESS LEADER
Our Current Guild Leader is Bordaaf Crimsonforge.

He has many responsibilities and it is requested that only matters you don’t feel were adequately resolved by another officer be brought to his attention. Being a leader takes a lot of responsibility and as such he has accepted a great burden. If you have any issues whatsoever, they should be directed towards one of the guild officers or leaders, using tells. It is preferred that you post them in the Guild Issues forum and check back frequently for feedback.
The Guild Leader is the final arbitrator in all matters concerning the guild's well being. His voice alone carries with it total veto powers.

A Note on Disciplinary Action --
Disciplinary Action shall be at the authority of the Guild Leader at all times. However, as an illustration of potential consequences of inappropriate behavior on the part of a guild member, the following list may be informative:
- Reduction of status to Probationary Member
- Loss of Officer status
- Barring from Guild events for a specific period
- Loss of Guild membership, possibly including alternate characters

Other consequences may be deemed appropriate by Guild leadership, with the approval of the Guild Leader. In general one can expect that the more severe or frequent an action is, the greater in severity the disciplinary action. All disciplinary action will be made with love and respect for all members, and a genuine commitment both to justice AND mercy, in keeping with our values.

Only the Guild Leader has the ability to instigate a guild war. This guild wasn't created to be an intimidation factor. It is asked that you keep disagreements to a personal level and don't involve either their guild or the Circle of Radiance in it. While Bordaaf may take the guild to war in your defense (provided you were justified), it is not the preferred option. A Guild War causes all members to look over their shoulder every five seconds to make sure there's not a fireball or pointy object inbound. Furthermore Guild War can often result in ambush tactics. Do you really want to have an enemy backstab you after you have lost half your life to a mob? How about three of them on you alone? Take the worst of every gangland/mafia movie and apply the tactics to the Ever Quest environment.

Only the Guild Leader may choose to ally us with another guild. If you know of a guild you wish us to ally with please post it in the Guild Issues forum. The leadership will research it and may in time choose to form such an alliance.

In the event that a Guild Leader steps down or in any way leaves the guild, he/she will appoint their replacement or open the issue to a popular vote. It is the current Guild Leaders decision alone. If the Guild leader has not been heard from for 3 months, then the Second will automatically assume leadership of the guild and appoint a Second. If at a later time the previous Guild Leader returns, it will be up to the Current Guild leader to step down or continue as the guild leader and allow the previous Leader to rejoin as a member.

THE SECOND
The Guild Second acts in replacement of the Guild Leader at all times he is not available. At all other times the Second acts as any other officer. Our current Guild Second is Carrilynnae.

The Guild Leader without a popular vote always chooses the second. The Second is the member the Guild Leader feels will most closely follow and represent his/her own decision making capabilities. In short the Second is the person the Guild Leader trusts to make decisions from the perspective of what the Guild Leader would have done. The Seconds decisions (in absence of the Guild Leader) will be accepted as the Guild Leaders own decisions. Upon his/her return the Guild Leader may choose to overturn any decision he/she is not comfortable with, but is not another level to try to get a ruling in your direction. No appeals may be made directly, instead post in the Guild Issues Forum about the decision and the Guild Leader may take action at a later time.

The Second must always be an officer, or be appointed to the officer ranks through the current accepted means.

OUR FOUNDER
We recognize and honor Alashar Spiritwalker as the esteemed founder of the Circle of Radiance. His wisdom led us from the very beginning and his noble values give us our strength and honor. Alashar has for the most part left Ever Quest to pursue Real Life issues. We appreciate the things he has done for us and respect him always.

Looting Policy
Top Errata Acts of Kindness Code of Conduct Trade Skills Twinking Voting Procedures Guild Invitations Recruiting The Membership Looting

We desire to equip our members as best we can so that we can do more together. Loot is not a primary goal of the guild and nor will it ever be. When anyone in the guild receives an item it makes the guild stronger than it was before. To this end, here are the Circle of Radiance loot policies.

Loot Council
The Circle of Radiance has Loot Council comprised of the Guild Second (Carrilynnae) and several officers. Some may not be present during each and every raid but those that are will comprise the Loot Council for that particular raid. If only one Loot Council member is present on a raid he may appoint two other members to act as part of the Loot Council for that raid only. The members discretion and judgment when choosing will be respected by all, and it is expected that the member will choose keeping in mind what is best for the entire guild.

Guild Raid Distribution
All loot acquired through guild raids will be distributed by the Loot Council. The decision on who receives any acquired loot will be final. There will be no discussion of loot whatsoever. The decision on who receives loot will be based upon level, participation, need and greatest benefit to the guild. At times it may be decided that a certain item would benefit someone that could not participate in that particular raid. But all loot decisions will be made with the guild as a whole in mind.

Non-Raid Distribution
Our favorite method of loot distribution is /autosplit on (for coins), alphabetical roster to loot kills and /random ### roll for the really good loot items. Once you have received a good loot item by /random ### roll, you are not to participate in more /random ### rolls until all members of the group have received a /random ### roll item. Not all parties or members wish to loot. This is especially true for monks, so ask who is or is not interested in looting upon joining a group.

Ask when you join a group what their looting system is, if they don’t have one then suggest ours. We believe in "Need Before Greed" loot during regular grouping sessions. There will be no /random ### roll for items if someone in your group (guilded or not) would best benefit from it (ie Class/Race Specific or not useable by you). Under no circumstance is a member to loot an item that is No Drop and not useable by that member. Ninja looting shall be regarded as a crime of an extraordinarily serious nature. In general, exhibitions of greed or rudeness will be greatly frowned upon, and may result in punitive action. We will uphold this standard at all times, under all circumstances.

Finally it is known that certain zones have set-in-place rules on looting. It is always acceptable to use the zone looting system while in that zone. Example the Spires in South Karana use an Alpha order, 3pp or Fine Steel with split off system. The main thing is to always establish what the looting system will be at the start to prevent later arguments or hurt feelings.

Hand-Me-Down Structure
If you receive an upgrade to an item during a guild raid, you will be asked to donate that replaced item to the Guild Vault so that it can benefit another member of the guild in turn. Of course this may not always be possible due to no drop items. We would like one person's gain to benefit others as well. The Loot Council will also decide who receives these "Hand-Me-Downs" using the same criteria as before.

Guests of the Circle of Radiance
All guests that participate in Circle of Radiance raids and events will be given equal standing when it comes to all loot decisions. Their needs will be taken into consideration just as if the guest were a member. In the event that a guest is given a loot item, we will offer to trade for the item being upgraded to continue our “Hand-Me-Down” structure. If the upgraded item is NO DROP, then the new item still goes to the guest.

Guild Vault
The Guild Vault will contain many things, from items donated by members to spells to quest items. If you have something to donate or need something out of the vault, please contact Bordaaf or Argenta after posting requests at message boards for she/he is in charge of the Guild Vault. The vault characters are currently named "CoRVault" and located in the building next to the bank in Kelethin and Circlevault in the Freeport area. Certain items that are received during a guild raid that cannot be used by any guild members (because everyone has better for example) will go into the Guild Vault and may be sold to increase the Guild Fund (see below). Any minor loot items acquired on a raid belongs to the raid leader (i.e. Gems and trade skill or spell research components) and if it’s a guild raid will be put in the guild vault to help members with trade skill growth or research.

Guild Fund
The Circle of Radiance is developing a separate reserve of platinum to be known as the Guild Fund. The platinum in the Guild Fund will be used to purchase anything needed for any particular guild raid (peridots, pearls, teleport stones, err ... coffins) or used to reimburse those that have spent their own personal money. This is to be used for guild raids only and not the day-to-day grouping. No one will be asked to donate anything to this fund, although you may if you wish. The Guild Fund is currently in the hands of (XXX).

We do try to help those in our guild with equipment and items they are in need of. If an item was given to you by the guild then we would ask u to recycle it and pass it on to a lower level member in need

Twinking
Top Errata Acts of Kindness Code of Conduct Trade Skills Twinking Voting Procedures Guild Invitations Recruiting The Membership Looting

At this time we have no policy for or against twinking of characters. It is our opinion that the higher one progresses, the less valuable such extraordinary gear becomes. Also most people will tell you that twink gear rarely will save your life, it just makes you a bit faster at things you can already do. As such feel free to twink or not twink your member characters at your discretion.

We strive to equip our members with the best available using a "Hand-Me-Down" system of old items traded in for guild granted loot upgrades. All information on available loot to the members will be posted in the guild vault forum. You may submit requests for an item (please include what item you can give in return if this is an upgrade) but in no circumstances are you to beg or act disruptive if you do not receive that item. All items passed out from the guild vault fall under the discretion of the Circle of Radiance Loot Council.

In no circumstances are arguments to take place either for or against twinking of characters. This is a personal choice please respect it as such. Do not harass or belittle those who choose to twink or those who choose not to twink.

Voting Procedures

Different situations call for different voting procedures. However, in all cases only your main character in the guild is ever allowed to vote.

New Member voting
Will be done by open (to members only) forum. Simply place a reply to that new members post with a yes or no vote and any reasoning behind it. No votes will not count unless reasons are given.

Open Votes
At times decisions will be made that the Guild Leader feels need the approval of the majority of the guild. While it is not always necessary to involve the members in each decision process, the Guild Leader may want overall approval for a course of action. At these times voting will be done in open forum as a post and replies to that issue. Once the set time has elapsed then the Guild Leader or appointed member for that issue will announce the findings.

Guild Invitations

A potential candidate must first obtain sponsorship from a member and then only after a field test in which the candidate is carefully observed in combat situations for their generosity, willingness to share, eagerness to assist others, and the goodness of their hearts will a candidate be asked to join. It shall be a privilege to be granted membership into, and to retain such membership within, the Circle of Radiance. Each member of the order must exemplify at all times a higher standard of morality, decency, honor, fair play, courtesy, respect, and above all things, loyalty, than is expected of and seen within other citizens of Norrath. These virtues we hold most sacred. While we treasure companionship with many throughout Norrath, and are faithful to such relationships, friendship alone shall be neither a condition nor a guarantee of admittance into our guild.

How to Join the Circle of Radiance

We welcome your interest in our happy guild family. Characters of all levels are welcome, as we believe that each player has something to contribute, however, we desire that our members have at least one character at tenth level in EQ before asking to join. This allows you, the potential member, to know a little about the game before you join.

Please take these next steps to ensure a smooth transition.

  1. Understand what the Circle of Radiance is
Thoroughly read our Guild Charter and all posted guidelines. It is very important that you understand the entirety of these documents. Visit our public information boards and homepage.
  2. Make An Official Membership Application
You must have a member of the Circle of Radiance sponsor you. Either you or your sponsor must post a message under the Membership Applications forum stating your Ever Quest name, class, level and reason you wish to join the Circle of Radiance along with an email address.
  3. Participate And Group
Participate in as many Circle of Radiance groups/raids as possible. You can find these on the Circle of Radiance Raid Calendar; a forum conveniently located on our message board or by asking your sponsor when and where an event is happening. You may also do a '/who all CIRCLE' and if you notice us all pretty much in one zone, then a raid is probably happening.
  4. Wait For The Vote
When your sponsor and our recruitment officer feel that you have done what is needed to become a member they will ask for a vote. Any member of the Circle of Radiance with just cause may veto your application in which case you will be informed of that decision. If there is no vote against the applicant with in 72 hours, then he/she will be granted probationary status.
  5. Probationary Membership Period
Please read our Recruiting policies below. If there are any questions whatsoever, please direct them to your sponsor or Tirnan in game.

Recruiting Policy
Top Errata Acts of Kindness Code of Conduct Trade Skills Twinking Voting Procedures Guild Invitations Recruiting The Membership Looting

The Circle of Radiance believes in a strict recruiting policy. There are many people in Ever quest do things that the Circle of Radiance does not wish to be associated with. Kill-stealing, ninja-looting, scamming, taking advantage of newbies, selfishness in regards to loot and dying (or in regards to anything for that matter), stealing from anyone, and immaturity are all behaviors which are not wanted in the Circle of Radiance. This policy is designed to keep people who habitually practice these behaviors out. The Circle of Radiance is all about skill, courtesy, helpfulness, and integrity. Those who do not display those qualities are not needed, and those who display the opposite qualities are not welcome.

To that end, the Circle of Radiance has developed the sponsorship program. In order to gain entrance to the Circle of Radiance, a potential recruit must find a standing member to sponsor them. This member will be held responsible for the recruits’ actions during their probationary period, and to a lesser extent, beyond. If you wish to become a member of the Circle of Radiance, you will need to group with at least one member on a regular basis, and that member must be convinced you will be a good candidate, for they must be willing to take responsibility for you.

When a member decides to sponsor a new recruit, they should post information about that recruit on the potential new members board at the Circle of Radiance web site. If no one can provide any solid reason why the recruit should not be granted probationary status within 3 days of this posting, then the potential member will be extended probationary membership.

During the period of probation, any and all standing members who come into contact with a new recruit should watch them carefully. Any who do so, are encouraged to post their thoughts about the individual on the potential new members message board.

The privileges of the probationary period are as follows:
  1. Access to guild chat
  2. Access to all public message boards
  3. Inclusion on all raids (indeed, they would be expected to attend any raids in their level range).

Responsibilities of the probationary period include
  1. Being online- there is no specific amount of time that a probationary recruit should be online, but they should make an effort to be on at least as much as they normally are
  2. Stay un-anonymous- all probationary recruits are required to leave the /anon and /role flag OFF during their probation.
  3. Represent the Circle of Radiance by your actions- a probationary member, just as a full member, must always remember that their actions reflect upon the entire guild. If you KS, ninja-loot, or just act immature, you are telling the server that the Circle of Radiance supports that kind of behavior. On the other hand, if you are helpful, courteous, and skilled, you will be showing that the Circle of Radiance possesses those qualities as a guild. Any serious violations committed by a probationary member will be dealt with by immediate dismissal. If such a dismissal occurs, it will be looked into whether or not the probationary member's sponsor could have known that such behavior would occur. If it is determined that a member sponsored a person they knew to possess those undesirable qualities, then their involvement will be questioned, and possible action, up to and including dismissal, will be taken.
  4. Provide ALL character information (Race/Class/Religion/Level/Special Skills and Trade Skills), email address, and then email this information to Bordaaf at jvriffel@swbell.net
Once your probation is over you may send an email requesting that your e-mail address be eliminated from the guild list or you may leave it up for posting to the guild email lists.

Length of the Probationary Period
The probationary period lasts two to four weeks. The individual will remain a probationary member until:
  1. Two weeks elapses and they are accepted into the guild by general consent of the membership
  2. They receive a "no" vote by any member and are disbanded
  3. The sponsor withdraws his/her support of the player
  4. Four weeks elapses with no action that would result in discipline for a current member
  5. They terminate their own probation at any time, and part with the guild.

Responsibilities of the Sponsor
If any member wishes to sponsor a potential recruit, they must be willing to take responsibility for that recruit's actions. Please be sure that the person you are sponsoring has good character, and possesses the skills and attitude by which the Circle of Radiance wishes to be known. Be aware that if this recruit commits actions that are not acceptable for a member to commit, you may be held partly responsible. During the probationary period it is your responsibility to counsel and guide recruits so that they may learn from their actions and/or misdeeds. This responsibility will lessen after they are accepted as full members, but never truly end. In order to sponsor, simply post on the Potential New Members forum all the pertinent information of the potential recruit: Name, class, level, and race and your name as the individual willing to sponsor along with email address.

If someone is a real life friend of yours, you are not allowed to be the sponsor. The Circle of Radiance requires unbiased opinions on whether or not a candidate is suitable for the guild.

No member may sponsor more than one person at a time. In other words, if you are currently sponsoring a probationary member, you may not sponsor another until that one is either accepted or declined.

All candidates must be informed that they are under field observation, and that much of this may be by members who have not revealed themselves to be such (either by going Anon or using alternate characters). All field tests shall be at least two weeks in duration, to allow time for a variety of members to see a candidate "in action" and to allow for time for the "best behavior" phenomenon to fade.

The sponsors’ final responsibility will be to submit a report regarding the candidate under the voting forum for that candidate. Please outline any experiences you have shared and the positive and negative insights you have about this candidate.

Things to look for when deciding whether or not you want to sponsor someone:

Willingness to try new things, whether that involves another zone, or alternate tactics Willingness to accept advice on how they might do something better
Willingness to help others, without expecting a reward or compensation
Earning the things they want, rather than begging for them.
Applicants personality and ability to enrich the world around them

Responsibilities of the Probationary Member
All probationary members are required to act as if they represent the Circle of Radiance, for in fact, they do. They will carry the Circle of Radiance guild tag, and others will see them as one of us. They must display all of the characteristics that make a member. These include honesty, courtesy, selflessness, and skill in the art of playing Ever Quest. This does not mean that all potential members must necessarily be skilled players when they join. However, part of the Circle of Radiance charter specifies that we will become the best players of Ever Quest that we can be. This means that potential members; whether they are highly skilled, complete newbies, or somewhere in between; be willing and enthusiastic to become better. It is doubtful that anyone who plays this game cannot become better at it. We simply ask that they are always working to make themselves better.

Probationary members are expected to be online at least as much as their normal playing amount, and to group and interact with as many different members as possible, and to remain OFF /anonymous, and /roleplay during the entire time of their probation. Any violations of these rules, or violation of any Circle of Radiance Policy will result in immediate rejection of application and disbanding of the offender.

Other Notes
Any standing member can be a sponsor. There are no level, time in guild, or any other requirements. As soon as a probationary member is accepted as a full member, they may sponsor others (as soon as they receive the email from a council member with the passwords to the private message boards). All they have to do is remember that they are held responsible for the actions of any new applicants that they sponsor, just as their sponsor was responsible for them.

All votes to accept probationary members will be held on the private message board. The voting will be open for the entire time that the applicant is a probationary member, and the result tallied at the end of the probationary period. If the probationary member has received unanimous yes vote of those who voted -only members who have had interaction with the person should vote- then a council member will make a post on the public EZBoard with an offer for full membership. The probationary member must respond to that post and MUST register their guild character in the Circle of Radiance roster at Guild Magic in order to be accepted as a full member. Once they respond, they should be considered a full member, and as such will receive an email with the passwords to the private boards.

During the probationary period all members and officers shall be expected to give extra attention to aid the candidate in adjusting to guild life. Some extra understanding is expected of the membership at this time, particularly for the very young initiates. However, extremely disruptive behavior during this period may cause the probationary member to be denied full membership and be immediately disbanded. Additionally, any trouble that a probationary member causes or gets into will be the responsibility of the sponsoring member, jointly with the probationary member, particularly in terms of providing restitution to anyone the probationary member injures.

In the event of a character shouting in a zone voicing his wishes to join a guild, under no circumstances is a member or officer permitted to reply to the effect that the Circle of Radiance may be willing to accept him or her as a member. The guild does not recruit in this manner. AT NO TIME will on-the-spot invitations be made. If someone comes up and asks politely about joining, you are requested to refer them to this site and ask them to contact you once they feel they fully understand all parts of the charter. At that point you must decide if you are willing to sponsor that individual and take the appropriate actions.

Do not discuss passwords or other private matters in guild chat, as there will probably be one or more probationary members in the Circle of Radiance at any given time.

Alternate characters of probationary members will not be added to the guild. Once they have become full members, they may add as many alternates as they wish.

If ANY standing member votes no on a probationary member and can show cause, they will be told that their petition to join was rejected, and shall be immediately disbanded.

In closing, each new membership incurs upon the sponsor a significant amount of responsibility. The formal application to the Circle of Radiance shall not be taken lightly by anyone, and both field tests and the probationary period are extremely critical to the insurance of a continued cohesive and happy membership, and therefore, Guild as a whole. Officers who do not follow both the spirit and the word of the guild's invitation procedures shall find themselves at significant risk of losing any and all leadership status within the guild, and quite possibly their membership as well.

Leaving & Re-Joining Policy
Any member may leave the guild of the Circle of Radiance anytime they wish, and for any reason. However, any former member who wishes to rejoin, regardless of the circumstances of their leaving, whether they quit, or were removed, must contact an officer if they wish to re-join. The officer will bring up their request at the next scheduled officer meeting, and it will be discussed and voted on. The vote must be unanimous in favor of allowing them back in. Once that is done, the officer should re-invite them at the earliest convenience of both.
