Green Line

Boston Green Line

The Green Line is well liked by railfans for the incredible variety it provides. Though the best elevated part (by North Station) has been torn down as part of the Big Dig, the trip over the Lechmere viaduct is also spectacular. The subway portion includes the circa 1897 tunnel from Park to Boylston and the PCC and Type 5 in Boylston station. There is great service in the subway portion of the line and the cars are crowded throughout the day and evening. The Private ROWs along Commonwealth Ave and stylish Beacon street are models that Toronto and San Francisco are now following for streetcar route construction.

This two car train of Type 7s has just left the Lechmere terminal and is crossing the Charles River en route to Science Park station. Behind the Lechmere viaduct, many cranes are visible on Big Dig duty.

At Kenmore a Type 7 is seen in an obnoxious shrink wrap for a computer company. Boston has benefitted greatly from the rise of the computer industry so much that perhaps this No Frills car can be overlooked.
