Roman Mythology

Bacchus - Gods and Goddesses

Bacchus was the Roman God of wine and ecstasy. His followers were mostly women. His festival, the Bacchanalia was celebrated on March 16 and 17. It was a wild feast where everyone got drunk and damced and in most cases it resulted in criminal behavior. For this reason the Bacchanalia was outlawed in Rome in 186 BC.
