Cupid was the Roman god of love and Psyche was a beautiful mortal princess. Venus, who was jealous of Psyche's beauty, ordered Cupid to punish her. Instead of punishing her, Cupid fell in love with Psyche and took her to a faraway place. Under Cupid's orders, if Psyche wanted to stay with him she wasn't allowed to ever see his face. After a period of time, Psyche couldn't help herself and she lifted the blanket and looked at Cupid's face one night while he was asleep. Just as she saw his face, he disappeared along with their beautiful surroundings. After this Venus was still jealous of Psyche and again wanted to punish her for her behavior, by putting her through a serious of dangerous ordeals. A mysterious power helped Psyche through and eventually she and Cupid were married.
