Here are some photos from a visit to Mount Vernon, home of our nations first president, George Washington. I was surprised at the building materials of the house. From photos, it looks like stone, but in reality, it is clapboard that has been grooved and sand painted to look like stone. I was also surprised at how grand the dining room was. Granted, this was a much later addition, but the plaster work and fireplace mantle were much more ornate than I expected. Unfortunately, there are no photographs allowed inside the home.
