The Rose Garden, Rose Bed Five | ||||
Links |
Rose Bed Five is on the western edge of the rose garden. There is no opening between Beds Five and Six. Instead, there is a bench. These two beds each have three climbing roses, to be trained up pillars. The roses on either side of the bench will be trained up an arbor around the bench. I am working on making the arbor out of cedars which I cut to provide a view of the ponds from the White Garden. The roses in Bed Five are: Climbing American Beauty, Sombreuil, Variegata de Bologna, Excellenz von Schubert, "Portland from Glendora", "Hollywood Moss", and Souvenir de la Malmaison. The roses are accompanied by: verbena bonariensis, siberian iris, chives, catmint, caryopteris, and thyme. There is a clematis planted with each of the climbing roses: Comtessa d'Bouchard, Duchesse of Edinburg, and a mystery lavender-colored clematis. There is a boxwood planted at the outer corner of the bed. The bed is underplanted with: Tulips 'Carnival de Nice' and Angelique', Narcissus 'Pipit', and allium 'Purple Sensation.'
