Star Flames

Sakura whipped around so fast. A man stood in front of her, grinning. A hazy red light glowed around his body. His pink hair floated around him. The man stuck up his hand with a wave.

“Hello,” he said. Sakura took a step back. The man took a look around.

“Where’s your family?” he asked.

“Gone,” Sakura said. The man raised his eyebrow as he smirked.

“Heh,” he said. He flipped his hair from his eyes.

“Such a shame,” the man said. “I was looking forward to burning all of you at once.” He whirled around like a dancer. The tenshi-chi looked ready to attack again. Could she take him by herself? She didn’t have a clue. It didn’t look like she would have a choice.

“Who are you?” Sakura asked. The man chuckled.

“Allow me to introduce myself,” he said. The man took a bow.

“I am called Nuri,” he said. “I am the Lord of Fire.” Sakura’s right eye started to twitch. Seriously? Sakura opened her mouth to speak. Nuri held up his hand.

“I know who you are,” he said. The man tried not to laugh.

“There’s not enough time for this chit-chat,” he said. He stuck his hand up in the air.

“It’s time for you to die!” Nuri said. Sparks and flames formed at his fingertips. He laughed before he roared.

Pire took a shot to the ear. He laughed as he wiped away the black blood. Spike narrowed his eyes.

“What’s so funny?” he asked. Pire took a breath.

“My brother must have found your little wife by now,” he said. Spike took aim again. Pire put up his hand.

“Tell me something,” he said. “How many bullets do you have left?”

“Why?” the cowboy asked.

“Oh…” Pire said. “Just that you might not have enough for the others.” He made a face when he saw how confused Spike looked.

“Aw, what? He is going all out for you,” he said. “He wants you all dead.” His voice dropped into a low growl. Pire stuck his hands up into the air.

“Now, enough of this nonsense,” he said. The demon stuck his hands up in the air.

“Say good night!” he shouted. The air grew colder as ice crystal formed at his fingertips. They all started making crackling and popping noises. Spike kept the barrel of the gun on his target.

-----------

Fire on one side. Ice on the other side. The family brace themselves to fight back. She and he knew that the odds were stacked against them. He has the biting cold on his back. The room kept getting colder. Pire smirked and threw out his biggest blast. Spike pulled the trigger as fast as he could.

Meanwhile, the air was burning around Sakura and Nuri. If she was human, she would’ve suffocated from the lack of oxygen. How long was she going to last? Her eyes began to water. Tiny sparks landed on her wings. The flames were already licking at her back. She flinched but stood her ground. The tenshi-chi was at least going to try and make it back to her family. With that thought in mind, Sakura’s own hands started to glow at her side. The look in her eyes turned cold despite the heat. She stretched her neck from side to side. Nuri smirked. He found himself rather enjoying this standoff. He looked forward to ending this. What he said next all but confirmed how over their heads the family was.

“We have three more siblings to finish you off.” The flames swirled and danced in the palm of his hands.

“Any last words?” he asked. Sakura said something that got lost in the hot air. Nuri raised his eyebrow.

“Excuse me?” he asked. Sakura was now staring at him with glowing eyes. Nuri let off a low whistle.

“Oh-ho!” he said before he threw his flames.
