ERIC CLAPTON contains material Eric Clapton recorded during his time with the Yardbirds and prior to his solo career. Some tracks on Volume II are Yardbirds only.

Eric "Slowhand" Clapton's joined the Yardbirds in 1963, but he quit after 18 months, disappointed by their gradual switch from blues to pop. He joined John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, and his lone album with Mayall, BLUES BREAKERS, remains a classic. He then recorded with the Powerhouse, which also included Steve Winwood, and Jack Bruce. In 1966, with Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker, he created the highly influential Cream. They lasted two years, after which Clapton, Baker and Winwood formed Blind Faith with Rick Grech, which released only one album. Clapton then joined Delaney and Bonnie, playing on one album, DELANEY AND BONNIE ON TOUR, before absconding with three members of the band to make Eric Clapton. The band became Derek And The Dominos. Clapton then struggled with a heroin habit. In 1974 Clapton recorded 461 OCEAN BOULEVARD. Gone were the long solos, replaced by shorter songs including Bob Marley's "I Shot The Sheriff." During the '80s, Clapton's albums were both critically and commercially successful. AUGUST contained the hit "Behind The Mask." With JOURNEYMAN, Slowhand rediscovered the guitar. On 1992's UNPLUGGED, he demonstrated his blues roots with the poignant "Tears In Heaven." FROM THE CRADLE, an electric blues album, brought him full circle.
