Bobby Whitlock - organ, vocals
Kenny Tibbetts - bass
Jerome Thomas - drums, organ
Jimmy Nalls - lead guitar
Dru Lombar - electric guitar
Larry Howard - acoustic guitar
Ricky Hirsch - slide guitar
Other Tracks -
various others (see blurb below)
Notes -
No Eric Clapton participation, but a nice version of the Derek & Dominos' song 'Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad'.
Blurb from the back cover:
As a member of the Original Delaney & Bonnie & Friends, Bobby Whitlock
has evolved considerably since that prestigious band disbanded. From D&D,
Whitlock (keyborads) along with Carl Radle (bass) and Jim Gordon (drum)
joined Eric Clapton
to form Derek and The Dominos. Whitlock wrote about half of the material
contained on the first Dominos album, Layla, that has since become one
of the true classic albums of rock. In addition to his singing and
writing ability, Whitlock has lent his talent to numerous sessions
including the Rolling Stones, George Harrison and Stephen Stills.
All the songs on this album were written by Bobby Whitlock save "Why
does..", co-written with Eirc Clapton,"It's bee.." co-written with
Grinderswitch's Dru Lombar
and "Brand new.." co-written with Brian Naughton. This album, produced
by Brian Hornsby, features a multitude of guitarists including
Jimmy Nalls, Rick Hirsch, Dru Lombar, Les Dudek and Larry Howard. Rock
Your Sox Of is his second Capricorn album, and it looks like the
beginning of a new era for Bobby Whitlock.

Review
CD Now
In the spirit of all-star get-togethers endemic to that part of
the '70s, 1976's NO REASON TO CRY became Eric
Clapton's recorded version of the Rolling Thunder Tour.
Joining Clapton in the studio were Bob Dylan, Ron Wood,
Georgie Fame and Band-mates Robbie Robertson, Rick
Danko & Richard Manuel (Clapton returned the favor later
in the year by appearing in The Last Waltz, the Band's last
live show). Clapton's buddies also contributed material,
including Dylan's "Sign Language," the Danko/Manuel
composition "Beautiful Thing" and Danko's
country-flavored "All Our Past Times."
At this point in his solo career, Clapton was taking a more
languid and low-key approach towards playing, with more
emphasis on presenting songs and less on soloing. Songs such
as the wistful "Hello Old Friend" and the aching "Innocent
Times," featuring Marcy Levy's gospel-flavored vocals,
reflect Slowhand's countryish leanings of the time. Clapton's
love of the blues, however, was undiminished, and when he
tackles both Otis Rush's "Double Trouble" and Little
Walter's "Last Night," he shines despite any stylistic changes.

Notes:
The large number of guests that appeared on "No Reason To Cry", such as
Bob Dylan, Ronnie Wood, Georgie Fame and Robbie Robertson leads me to believe that at least some of them appear on this CD.
"No Reason to Cry" sessions features remarkably little new material, with
so-called outtakes being limited to a few extra seconds of intro/outro on
most tracks. (J.M.)
Tenho Sede is on the CD but not listed on the cover.- JCH.

Eric Clapton's guest spot was specially inserted for this show, and then
he returned to the stage for the last song and subsequent encore.
Ron Wood had earlier in the year been announced as the new Official
Rolling Stones member.
Thus Eric was not auditioning as a potential band member.

Review
CD Now
During the late '60s and most of the '70s, The Band were
arguably the premier American rock group, combining a host
of influences to create a distinctive full-bodied sound. For a
primarily Canadian ensemble, their lyrics were pure
Americana. With themes ranging from the Civil War to
small town fairs, they were set in heartland cornfields and
Southern battlefields, and the Band's repertoire came to
personify the American people. Eloquent and lyrical, their
songs stood apart from the other popular genres of the time.
Musically, they were equally inventive, incoporating
accordions, organs, mandolins and fiddles. It was all driven by
the group's individualized vocals, with harmonies that
purposely didn't blend. THE LAST WALTZ is the recorded document of their 1976
farewell performance. The event was filmed as a
documentary by Martin Scorsese, capturing the all-star
concert (and Thanksgiving dinner) for posterity. Sort of a
rock version of "This Is Your Life," THE LAST WALTZ
brought together performers from all phases of the group's
career, giving them a chance to pay tribute and join The
Band one last time.
There's no doubt that the songs are the centerpiece. All the
group's well-worn hits are reprised, but there are some
notable standouts. Famed Canadian rocker Ronnie Hawkins,
whom the Band backed in their early days as The Hawks,
reprises "Who Do You Love." After their tenure with
Hawkins, the group went on to accompany Bob Dylan on
some of his earliest electric sessions. Dylan returns the favor
by performing a strong folk-blues medley beginning and
ending with a fiery, rocking version of "Baby Let Me Follow
You Down." Muddy Waters gives a lesson in the blues on
"Mannish Boy," with the late great Paul Butterfield on
harmonica. Eric Clapton offers his own polished version of
the blues with a blistering "Further On Up The Road."
Emmylou Harris, a highlight in any setting, duets on the
gentle waltz "Evangeline." Dr. John's accurate and rousing
"Such A Night" brings a bit of Mardi Gras to the proceedings.
Joni Mitchell provides another pleasant change of pace,
introducing her jazz-inflected sound with "Coyote," and
joining in on soulful soaring harmonies with Neil Young on
his classic "Helpless." Even Neil Diamond joins in on the fun,
on a song he co-wrote with Robbie Robertson.
Although not the last track on the disc, the Dylan-led
all-star rendition of the Band/Dylan classic "I Shall Be
Released" is the emotional finale of one of the most
important records in contemporary music.
