Twenty One

"You got the bandages off." Summer grinned, hoping to have some good news.
Zac shifted nervously in his bed and shrugged his shoulders. "Came off a few minutes ago. What do you mean you've done 'something like this before'?" He asked directly shifting the focus off him again.
Sucking in a deep breath she forced the incident past her lips. "I was kicked out of dancing school, and so in revenge for that, I wrapped my ballet suit around a brick and while passing by the building, saw what the impact of a padded cement block did to a glass window."
"You were a wild one, huh?" Jakob murmured.
Rolling her neck to loosen the taut muscles there, Summer groaned. "Yeah. I was."
"Well," Zac started, shrugging. "I'm not so surprised. The chica has had more hair color's than Dennis Rodman." His forehead crinkled though in a frown, "But the destructive behavior is a new one to me."
She smiled weakly, "Yeah well… I didn't have a lot then, and when they kicked me out for being prima ballerina, well, I got angry and figured I didn't have much to lose." She laughed then, bitterly. "Only I did. Not only did I get to wear lovely bracelets, forty hours of community service, and a nice couple hours in a tiny jail cell but I got a great record to follow me around now too."
"But you didn't do it this time?" Jakob asked.
Rubbing her forehead, Summer repeated her innocence. "No, I didn't do this." She shook her head, "That seems to be my mantra recently, but I had no reason to do it this time. Hell, I didn't even had one last time! But I had friends there, people I cared about, students. There's no way I would have done something like that. Not with people around. The dance school was empty. I couldn't purposely hurt someone like that."
"So they're just automatically picking you as the suspect and guilty party anyway because of your past?" Jakob asked curiously.
Summer rubbed at her eye, "Yeah."
"Well as long as they're being fair about it and all." He returned dryly.
She smiled, thankful for someone else believed in her now. If much longer past, she probably would have believed she was guilty too.
"Mama's mad at you for not waiting." Jessica exclaimed from the doorway before rushing in and throwing her arms around his neck. "It's not fair that we weren't here when you were seeing again."
The gasps from Summer and Jakob had him cringing, "You can see again?" Jakob choked out.
Zac nodded slowly, his eyes on Summer. "Yes, I can still see, Jakob."
"Mom, dad, and everyone's on their way. I ran ahead." She announced, grinning proudly at the accomplishment.
Her statement nearly went unnoticed by the trio, until the room exploded with energy and bodies.
