A Typical Day at Ma'ili

  • We do our morning message. Smile!
  • We do our calendar. Smile!
  • We love to read. Smile!
  • We love to write. Smile!
  • We do journals. Smile!
  • We publish books. Smile! We like centers. We build with blocks and Leggos. Smile!
  • For Math we use our Addison-Wesley textbooks and a lot of math manipulatives. We use geo boards, pattern blocks and unifix cubes. Smile!
  • We love working on the computer! We made a multimedia slide show using Kid Pix on the computer. Smile!
  • We see Kupuna Lewis twice a week. She teaches us Hawaiiana. We learn to count in Hawaiian. We learn about foods such as taro(kalo), sugar cane(ko), coconut (niu) and breadfruit(ulu). We learn songs in Hawaiian. We like to sing Hawaii Pono'i. Smile!
  • We study Science. We use DASH and Project Ohi'a. We learn about plants and animals. We study volcanoes and dinosaurs. We study ocean creatures. We learn about space. Smile!
  • For Social Studies we learn about families and our Community. We use our textbook Homes and Neighborhoods. Smile!
  • We love to do Art. This year we did ceramics, playdough and clay sculptures. We did drawings in our Art sketchbook. We did paintings and printings. Smile!
  • We are friends! Smile!
  • We have PE with Mrs. Black. We learn lots of fine and gross motor actvities. We like to do Fun Runs with our buddies. Smile!
  • Recess is also an important part of the day. We love to play with our peers. Smile!

Special Days

Spot!

  • Our weekly get togethers with our Fifth Grade Buddies from D-5 were always a special treat. We had ice cream socials. We did lots of arts and crafts projects together. We went on a Scavenger Hunt, made paper dragons and flying carp. We also got to read, read and read! We learned a lot from our buddies! Spot!
  • This year we had a lot of assemblies. Spot!
  • Ronald McDonald came to visit Ma'ili Elementary. He came to talk about Character and Responsibility. He even surprised our class with a visit! Spot!
  • We loved when the Army National Guard came to visit. They landed a big helicopter in the outfield! We got to try Ready-To-Eat-Meals and get an up close look at the chopper. Spot!
  • Baba B came to Ma'ili to sing Big Boy in Love and a few of his favorite songs. He is a singer from Wa'ianae, he gave a terrific performance and stressed to us how important it was to follow your dreams and make the most out of your educational opportunities. Spot!
  • J-Smooth, a local DJ, came to visit to talk about the importance of staying in school and being Drug-Free. Here he is congratulating some of B-2's Perfect Attendance Award Winners with Mrs Main and Mrs. Bagoyo. Spot!
  • We went on Field Trips. To learn about our community, we took a tour of the Leeward Coast on the City Bus. We visited our local Public Library. Spot!
  • We visited Pearlridge Shopping Center in December. We learned about a lot of different jobs people can have in a mall. Spot!
  • We saw a huge sand sculpture being built depicting various versions of Santa Claus around the world. Spot!
  • We got to talk to Santa and he even sang a song with us! Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, of course! Spot!
  • We had a fun picnic at Pearl City's Blaisdell Park. B-2 took a few candids with their friends from B-3 and B-5! Spot!
  • Our best field trip was our last outing. We took a boat cruise out the Wa'iane Boat Harbor with Dream Cruises. We saw pods of Spinner Dolphins. We had Oceans of Fun! Spot!
  • We participated in our Annual Fun Fair by selling sodas, Spam musubis and li hing oranges. We also sold Polaroid Dress Up Fun Photos. The money raised was used to defray field trip costs, buy educational materials and help pay for a special end-of-the-year Pizza Party. Spot!
  • One of our final class projects was putting on the play Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter. We sang songs and used sign language. We made a set complete with props and costumes. We loved performing for families! Spot!

  • Here are few more candids from B-2. Pretty Pix! On May 28th we sang Hokule'a by Leon and Malia and the Hawaiian Version of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star (Imo Imo Hoku Iki) Pretty Pix!
  • On June 3rd we had lots of fun when we had water play with all of our first grade friends! Pretty Pix!
  • This year was filled with many marvelous memories!!! Still Under Construction!
