So if modern Pagans do not practice Wicca, what do they practice then? How did Wicca get so far off course?
Most Neo-Pagans who call themselves Wiccan actually practice electic witchcraft.
For another bit of triva that may come as a surprise - Wicca and Witchcraft are different practices altogether. Wicca is a specific Religious Tradition with specific rites, tenets, and practices. Witchcraft, on the other hand, is an umbrella term that covers many different paths and practices. It defines a skill or vocation - it has nothing what-so-ever to do with religion. So you can be a christian witch, satanic witch, wiccan witch, or an atheist witch. Being an electic witch would allow one to mix and match whatever beliefs they wanted without stepping on the toes of any religion, tradition, group, or practice.
Wicca got spun into what it is today during what I call the Great Pagan Revolution. The GPR occured between the the 1960's & 1980 in response to several great social upheavials. The first being the hippie movement coupled with the feminist movement. The next change would follow on their heels in the form of creating a Pagan religion that was easily accessable to all. After these two great events, Paganism would be changed forever.
