JOHN HEBDEN was born 1616 in Stokesley. He married ANN APPLEBY in 1660 in Stokesley and they had four children. Nothing further is known of William b 1662 or Elizabeth b.1666, except that William married in 1699 to a Margaret Fox. Then there was Marmaduke b 1661 and John b 1664

JOHN HEBDEN was born 1664 in Stokesley, and died there in 1725. He married twice, first to a JANE HYAK in 1690 and then MARY COATCHWORTH in 1697.
John and Jane had one son, also called JOHN (1691 to 1720) in Stokesley.
The seond marriage to Mary produced two children, ANN and THOMAS(1699-1700).

MARMADUKE HEBDEN, (1661-1716) was a bricklayer. In 1695 he married CATHERINE JACKSON and had 12 children, all born in Stokesley. - RICHARD b. 1696, THOMAS born and died in 1696 and another MARMADUKE b. 1697. Then came GRACE b. 1693 and she married a farmer called WILLIAM BLACKBURN in 1719. A second Thomas was then born but like his older brother died the same year he was born. He was followed by ANN born in 1703 but died two years later and JANE born 1701. WILLIAM was born in 1702, FRANCIS in 1706, MICHAEL in 1715 and ANNin 1708. Finally, there was a CHRISTOPHER who was born 1712 and became a tailor by trade. Christopher went on to marry a lady called Hannah Ward

Marmaduke (born in 1697) was a weaver. His wife is unknown but they had six children all born in Stokesley between 1718 and 1737 with nothing further known of them. These children were ANN, MARY, HANNAH, JOHN, MARMADUKE & JOHN. Mary & the two John’s are known to have died in infancy.

WILLIAM born 1702 also married twice. His first wife was an ELIZABETH MASON and they had three children, DORCAS, JOHN & ELIZABETH. His second wife was a widow called FRISWEL COATAM and they had a daughter MARY. Nothing further is known of Williams descendants, if any.

FRANCIS born 1706 was a tailor by trade and he had six children, (JONATHAN, RACHEL HEBDEN, HANNAH, FRANCES, ELIZABETH & ISAAC) of whom nothing further is known.

and the final child of MARMADUKE was Michael born 1715. He too was a tailor and had five children:-
JOHN b. 1738 who married ANN SCORTON in 1776 in Crathorne, THOMAS b. 1741, yet another MARMADUKE born 1746, MARGARET who married in 1755 in Whorlton to a Francis Fairweather and last, but not least, LUKE HEBDEN, b. 1744 and who married JANE HODGSON in 1791 in Whitby. This couple went on to produce a Whitby line of Hebdens which shall appear on this website in due course.
