At some stage towards the end of the Elizabethan Age MARTIN HEBDEN was born. It is not known where or when this was it was likely that he was born around 1595. What is known is that he was in Keighley by 1624 and died there in 1651.
Six years earlier the Battle of Keighley took place between Parliamentary Keighley and the Royalists from Skipton, just outside of the town. It was a victory for Keighley and quite possibly Martin Hebden or one or other of his sons took part.
Martin married MARGARET SUGDEN 1617 in Elland (nr Halifax) and had five children : The three daughters were MARIA HEBDEN, b. Abt. 1617. ANNE HEBDEN, b. Abt. 1626 and MARY HEBDEN, b. Abt. 1635.
Of their sons JAMES HEBDEN born about 1619, married GRACE SHEPHERD and had a son, FRANCIS HEBDEN who was born. Abt. 1642.
And
MARTIN HEBDEN (jnr) was the only child known to be definitely born in Keighley and he married firstly FRANCES SOWDEN on 1 July 1650 in Bingley.
This couple had two sons JOHN HEBDEN who died in 1714 and JAMES HEBDEN who was born about 1650.
Frances Sowden would have died somewhere between 1650 and 1668 as Martin married MARY MAUD (MAWD ?) on 21st April 1668. No children are recorded from this marriage.

Of this third generation, JAMES had a child called ELIZABETH, born around 1676 but the name of her mother is unknown.
Being born in 1650, James would have seen the Parliamentarian years, the return of the Stuart Monarchy and, if he lived as long as his brother John, would have seen two more kings and queens crowned.

His brother JOHN HEBDEN, who died in 1714, the same year as Queen Anne, also had a wife who went unrecorded but he did have six children
ELIZABETH HEBDEN, b. Abt. 1681 d. 1681.(possibly a twin to Jonathan?)
JONATHAN HEBDEN, b. Abt. 1681 and who married ELIZABETH LEACH shortly after Christmas on the 27 December 1705 in Bingley. No more is known.
MARTHA HEBDEN, b. Abt. 1682.
JAMES HEBDEN, b. Abt. 1683 and lived for 86 years, dying on 23 January 1769, married MARY ROPER. GRACE HEBDEN, b. Abt. 1685 married someone called WILKINSON and her younger sister PHOEBE HEBDEN, b. Abt. 1691 married LUKE LUND in 1722 in Bingley.

With the fourth generation we reach the seventeenth century and are well into the reign of the House of Hanover.

JAMES HEBDEN, son of John, (born Abt. 1683), had married MARY ROPER on Christmas Day 1710 in Bingley.
They had three boys and three girls. The girls, ABIGAIL, MARTHA and PHOEBE are not recorded as having any marriages.
