Linda, Jason and I left the lunch spot at 1:10 and headed makai. At the junction with Punaiki Ridge we met Dayle who, get this, began the hike at 11:30 and reach the junction in 1 1/2 hours. I took me 3 hours to get there this morning. No wonder he's the new Club President! The crew that chose to climb Punaiki were heard just below the junction. Apparently they hit unbelieveable amounts of Uluhe which they had to clear. It took them approx 4 hours to get to the junction.
Linda and I continued down the way we came up. Jason and Dayle would go down the now clear Punaiki Ridge. They made it back to the highway somewhere around 2 pm. Me going down Maakua Ridge didn't get back to the highway until 3:45.
At 2 o'clock or so, an hour and a half after lunch I stopped again for another Power Bar break. Just think, I was still high on the mountain and Jason and Dayle were grinding on the beach with Mabel. Anyway as I snacked, Jay, Peter, John, Dick, and Bill passed my by. They were the crew that came up Punaiki. Later I caught up with them as Jay was slowing everyone down as he lopped and lopped christmas berry and guava.
Soon being a "nice" guy Jay let us all pass. We hiked together for a while
