1. Download the files
You need to put the downloaded files
into a folder, from which you can then install GIMP.
For
downloading the pre-compiled Windows version, go to

Download
the following files into a folder called 'GIMP2.0 zips':

As usual, virus check all the files.
2. Install GIMP
You have to do this in the right
order.
You will need a program for extracting the files from
the .zip files that you've just downloaded.
If you don't
already have one, then try winRAR, listed on my Free
Software Page under 'Compression Tools'.
1. Install
AFPL Ghostscript 8.11 from file gs11w32.exe (this is the command
line version)
Install to C:\Program Files\gs
Optionally (I
think) install the Ghostscript GIU with file gsv44w32.exe
Leave
just .ps and .eps files associated with Ghostscript) (this is the
GUI for it)
It installs to C:\Program Files\Ghostgum
2.
Extract all the 4x files from their 4x .zip files into a
temporary folder.
You should end up with the following files
in a folder:
gimp-2.2.1-i586-setup.exe – the main GIMP
install program
gimp-gap-2.0.2-setup.exe – the animation
install program
gimp-help-2.0.6-setup.exe – the help
install program
gtk+-2.4.14-setup.exe – the GTK install
program
3. If you have GIMP already installed:
Uninstall
the GTK+ in the 'Control Panel'
Remove or rename the GIMP
folder called C:\Program Files\GIMP 2.0
4. Close all
applications before installing
5. Run the GTK+ setup file
gtk+-2.4.14-setup.exe (this installs the gimp runtime
environment)
It installs to: C:\Program Files\Common
Files\GTK\2.0
6. Then run the gimp setup file
gimp-2.2.1-i586-setup.exe (this installs gimp).
You need
Ghostscript already installed to enable gimp to read .pdf
files.
Leave all the file association boxes unticked –
it's up to you !
Create a desktop and quick launch icons
It
installs to: C:\Program Files\GIMP-2.0
And creates
C:\Documents and Settings\Steve\.gimp-2.2
Set the tile cache
to as much as your RAM will allow. I'm trying 500MB with 1GB of
RAM.
7. Run the Help install file
gimp-help-2.0.6-setup.exe
This installs files in:
C:\Program
Files\GIMP-2.0\GIMP-2.0\lib\2.0
C:\Program
Files\GIMP-2.0\share\gimp\2.0

8.
Run the gap install file gimp-gap-2.0.2-setup.exe
When you
run GIMP for the first time it asks about the swap file:
The swap file for gimp is in the
C:\Documents and Settings\Steve\.gimp-2.0 folder.
