Trick Your Body Into Losing Weight
The key is to control a special enzyme
whose job it is to store fat in your body.
And eating MORE often, rather than less,
is the way to do it.
The enzyme lipoprotein lipase (LPL)
transports fat from your bloodstream to your
fat cells. LPL makes it easier for your
body to store fat since it opens up doorways in
your body to allow new fat cells in.
The Key to Outsmarting LPL
Eat Frequently
Snacking at different times of the day
can actually help you stay slim.
To keep the enzyme from bombarding your
fat cells, "it's important to eat when
you're first hungry, rather than waiting
until you are famished".
Generally, that means every 3 to 4 hours.
This will keep your blood sugar level ( energy )
high enough so your body won't go into
starvation mode, the point where LPL tends to activate.
To keep LPL under control, concentrate
on high-fiber, complex carb foods such as rice and beans,
fresh fruit and veggies.
High-fiber complex carbs are digested
faster than protein and fat, you will be more likely
to eat frequently, rather than going for
long stretches between meals.
Keep Your Calorie Intake Consistent
Do not binge one day, then cut back the
next. Try to consume the same amount of calories per day.
Up and down calorie intake sets off an
increase in LPL.
On the days you eat more, your body will
store more of those calories as fat.
Keep A Diet Journal
To keep your LPL level low and your eating
habits on track, record what you eat in a food
journal and tally calories and grams of
fat daily.
The journal can give you a better idea
of your eating style and habits.
To lose weight gradually and keep LPL
levels low, aim for 1,200 to 1,400 calories per
day and 40 to 50 grams of fat per day.
Work Out Regularly
Exercise is one of the most powerful ways
to keep LPL activity low.
When you exercise your muscles gear up
to turn fat into energy, rather than store it.
Aim to do at least 30 minutes of exercise
three times a week.
