These are great craft ideas to keep handy as time-fillers or in case of an "emergency". All you need is paper, crayons, scissors and glue. You've got to be prepared!

Folded Paper Stained Glass
Supplies: Typing paper and crayons

Fold a piece of paper at an angle and then unfold it to make a nice crease. Fold and unfold again until you have a good stained glass effect. Color each shape with a different color crayon.

Scribble Pictures
Supplies: Typing paper and crayons

Make a “scribble”, swirling lines all over the paper, leaving plenty of big shapes to color. Color each shape with a different color.

Variations:

    • Only use three colors; the same color cannot share a "wall"
    • Make scribbles using straight lines and angles
    • Have groups of children cooperatively create a scribble picture mural
    • Use the same rules to color "overlap" shapes or pictures

Lip Print Portrait
Supplies: Paper, crayons, paint, lipstick

Put dark lip stick on each girl. Have the girls kiss a piece of paper in the middle of the page. Tell the girls to draw in their face and features around the lips to create a self portrait.

Shape Sculpture
Supplies: Paper, glue sticks, scissors

Cut different size strips of colored paper. Fold some strips into circles, some into squares others into triangles. Cut out large shapes for a base. Arrange shapes and strips on your base and glue into place.

Name Monster
Supplies: Paper, crayons, scissors

Fold paper in half and have child write name (in all caps if have a hanging letter) along the fold. Cut around the sides and top of the name, leaving the fold in tact. Open the paper and color a monster in the shape.

Pet Store
Supplies: Paper, crayons, scissors

Fold a piece of paper in half and draw the outside of the "building" on the top layer. Cut out the flaps, then populate the store with pets on the bottom layer.

Torn Paper Art
Supplies: Construction paper, glue.
Optional: rulers, crayons, markers
Choose a full sheet of paper for the background. Tear other colored sheets into different shapes. To help get better shapes, you can hold down a ruler and slow pull the paper so that it rips against the edge. Make a bunch of small squares to piece together mosaic style or create larger pieces for houses or trees, felt board style. Glue torn paper to the background. You may use markers, crayons or other materials to embellish the designs.

Quick Frame
Supplies: Construction paper, scissors, glue
Optional: Pre-cut shapes, glitter, stickers or other embelishments

Measure the picture or art you wish to frame. Fold the construction paper in half. Draw the frame opening on one half. Make it a tiny bit smaller than the picture. Cut out the opening.

Cut shapes out of construction paper and glue them to the front of your frame. After the glue dries, use markers or crayons to decorate your frame. Tape your picture or drawing inside.

Chinese 7-Board
Using a ruler, divide a sheet of paper into 7 pieces of rectangles, squares, triangles or odd shapes. Color in each section as you like. Cut out the 7 shapes and re-arrange into another pattern to make a dragon/boat/duck/monster/anything you want. The challenge is then to return the puzzle to the original sheet of paper.
