The biomedical sciences will be the training areas that will help nurture, develop and train highly skilled biomedical professionals. These professionals, (medical doctors, nurses, medical technologists, research scientists, teachers, etc.) will have the awesome and unique responsibility to develop new medicines (both natural and pharmaceutical) and new analytical and treatment procedures that will treat and cure diseases that have plagued mankind for centuries. The 21st century will compromise a global economy that is in need of highly trained and skilled biomedical professionals. Tech's Biomedical Major provides a unique opportunity to Tech students to learn, question, and explore some of the subjects and ideas that they will eventually encounter in college and professional school. The Bio-Medical major is built on a core of laboratory courses which help students develop and perfect their laboratory and theoretical skills. Graduates of Tech's Bio-Medical Major, including many who enter 6 year M./D. programs immediately after high school, have a great advantage when taking the college courses necessary for the health professions; they will be experiencing subjects for the second time that others are experiencing for the first time. NOTE: all students must take the Advanced Placement Biology examination in order to satisfy their Tech Course Major diploma requirement. Biomedical students receive many enrichment experiences outside of Tech, including the opportunity to attend scientific conferences. They are also continually appraised to do internships and engage in research. THE AVAILABILITY OF THE ABOVE COURSES IS ALWAYS DEPENDENT ON BOARD OF EDUCATION FUNDING.
