Selection criteria: Math average, overall average, interest in computer technology as demonstrated in an essay. Demonstrated ability to work independently and complete homework and projects.

Junior Year Courses: Operating systems/Visual BASIC, CISCO Networking

 

Senior Year Courses: Graphics Programming, Computer Architecture, Intro C++, CISCO, Software Design, Advanced Placement C++, Website Design (HTML)

DESCRIPTION:

In today's modern world, the applications of computers are expanding at such a rapid pace that while you are reading this text, new developments are being implemented. The Computer Science Major is offered to all students who have an interest in exploring in-depth, not only computer programming languages, but also some of the most current and practical computer software applications. Within the major students are provided with a broad range of computer skills and experiences- the primary vehicle being that of problem-solving in a variety of programming and applications projects. To this end, they have hands-on use of both IBM and microcomputer equipment in specially designed computer labs. Courses given include:

1. A thorough study of programming languages in these areas:

(a) Visual Basic

(b) C++

(c) Computer Graphics

 

2. Computer Operating Systems- DOS and Windows

 

3. CISCO Networking

 

4. Student Team Project- students create original software for practical, technical, and non-technical applications.

 

5. Computer Architecture, Digital Systems

THE AVAILABILITY OF THE ABOVE COURSES IS ALWAYS DEPENDENT ON BOARD OF EDUCATION FUNDING.
