Pre or co requisites: On track in science Selection criteria: Review of overall average, attendance and permanent records. Passing grade on all Science Regents taken. Junior Year Courses: Environmental Engineering (2 terms), plus AP Environmental Science Exam.
Senior Year Courses: Environmental Applications; Environmental Planning, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, or AP Physics. DESCRIPTION: The Environmental Science and Engineering Major is an interdisciplinary series of courses dealing with topics in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Facilities Planning, City Planning, Economics, Philosophy, Sociology, Government, and Political Science. Environmental Engineering I and II, given in the 11th Year compromise the core curriculum for the AP Environmental Science Exam given in May of that year. In addition, we study state of the art pollution treatment and prevention methods. This course is enhanced by laboratory activities, guest speakers, and field trips. Some lab activities will be done off site. In the senior year, Environmental Applications in the fall term concentrates on the application of environmental principles to human concerns. Students may select either Energy Engineering or Environmental Health. Environmental Planning in the spring term concentrates on City Planning, Environmental Planning, and Public Policy. Independent college level study is expected culminating in a senior project. Selected students get the opportunity to take some course work offsite. Note 1: All student must take the Advanced Placement examination in Environmental Science plus another AP Science Course of the student's choice to satisfy the Tech diploma requirement. Note 2: Current plans envision the creation of additional laboratory facilities for this major. THE AVAILABILITY OF THE ABOVE COURSES IS ALWAYS DEPENDENT ON BOARD OF EDUCATION FUNDING.
