Pre or co requisites: Sequential Math II Honors or III 

Selection criteria: At least 90 in Math and Science; overall 88 average, honor classes and academic teams. Preference is given to students who are advanced in mathematics and who have demonstrated an interest in math at Tech; i.e. participation in math team, math fairs, math student magazine, summer courses etc. All students must complete an application. Interviews are conducted only as necessary.

Junior Year Courses: Pre-calculus or Calculus, Advanced Placement Computer Science, Mathematical Analysis Elective

 

 

Senior Year Courses: Advanced Placement Calculus, Advanced Placement Probability and Statistics, Advanced Placement Science (BC-Calculus students may opt out of AP science)

DESCRIPTION:

There are limitless opportunities for individuals who are experts in mathematics and science. The major will provide the student with a broad and flexible education to keep pace with future trends.

The Mathematics Institute Major emphasizes the study of mathematics and related sciences. Students will be offered the opportunity to participate in an intensive. enriched, program of mathematics, computer science, and basic sciences in addition to the regular academic course of study. Some highlights are:

  • Advanced Placement Calculus

  • Advanced Placement Computer Science (C++)

  • techniques of research and writing

  • problem solving and techniques

  • a course in probability and statistics, AP statistics

  • a course in discrete mathematics

  • special advanced courses in science

THE AVAILABILITY OF THE ABOVE COURSES IS ALWAYS DEPENDENT ON BOARD OF EDUCATION FUNDING.
