He married MARY ELIZABETH RICHARD/S November 14, 1873 in Greene County, Illinois4, daughter of JOHN/JEAN RICHARD/S and ANNE LEOPARD. Robert & wife Robert in front of his Eldred store Robert & kids Notes for ROBERT B. MARTIN: He was a farmer for many years in Woodville, IL. Robert and his unmarried sons bought the store in Eldred sometime after Mary Elizabeth's death. They lived in rooms upstairs and ate near-by at a hotel. They worked hard. After Robert's death William and Leila bought it. The store sold coal, kerosene, tires, shoes, hosiery, sewing supplies and lots of fabrics. Also tobacco, large variety of canned goods, bulk sugar, flour and coffee in barrels. They had fresh country eggs, milk and butter that farmers traded for their needs. They ordered live chickens from a truck that came thru. Their legs were tied together until someone came for them. The store had catalogs of appliances, etc that could be mail ordered and shipped to Eldred on the train.
