"Its the worst movie ever made"
    David Schmader, On Showgirls

So tonight I found myself in the Showbox for the first time in my life. The Showbox is a fairly famous Seattle venue that's just a few blocks from my house. Its a cool place and there's a show there almost every night, but nothing that ever really grabbed my attention. Until tonight.

David Schmader has been hosting showings of Showgirls for a few years now. Tonight was the last showing he'll be doing for a while though. Apparenly MGM called him up last month... not to threaten him, but to recruit him to provide commentary for their tenth anniversary edition of the Showgirls DVD.

Anyway, the format is David gets up on stage, gives an overview of the movie and why it is the worst film ever made, and then occasionally pauses the film to interject commentary during the showing.

Now, I had never seen the film so it was all new to me. Had I seen this movie when it first came out ten years ago I probably would have felt pretty ripped off. However, presented as it was tonight I can honestly say it was one of the funniest things I have ever seen in my entire life.

I can't do justice to the film or the commentary so I won't even try here, but I will say that if you ever have the chance to see this film: don't do it. However, if you have to watch it do your best to revel in just how bad the directing, writing, dialog, acting, and emoting really are.

'Cuz they're bad, alright. Really bad.

"Well there'll be smiling, there'll be laughing
 That's good enough for me
There'll be dancing all around you
This is where you want to be"
    Great Big Sea, Goin' Up

This weekend I learned two things:

1) My instincts are good
2) I never trust them

Saturday afternoon I'm sitting in my place when suddenly I get the notion that I should go down to the market for doughnuts. I'm not even hungry, but suddenly I have this desire to go get doughnuts. Well, I decide that its a stupid impulse and I don't do it.

That night I went to see Carbon Leaf and Great Big Sea in concert. Partway through their set GBS says how they spent all afternoon at the market watching the fish throwers (which is right next to the doughnut stand). Doh.

The concert was awsome, and as we're leaving I think to myself: "I wonder where the bands will go after the show? Kells probably. Its a nice Irish pub just a few blocks away. Maybe we should head over there? Naaahhh."

So Ted and I have a few drinks, eat breakfast at Minnies at around 12:30am and I put him on a bus shortly before 1:00am. The next day he tells me that he saw a bunch of folks he works with on the bus. They asked what he did that night, and when he mentioned the concert they freaked out. They had been there too and afterwards they went to Kells where they wound up drinking (for free) with Great Big Sea

What the hell is wrong with me?

Anyway, check this out: Abandoned Island

"Dig-dig-dig my Long Island sound
I hope you're puttin' it down"
    Manhattan Transfer, Four Brothers

Holy. Shit. Where is the time going? Is it the long hours at work? The extra practices we're cramming in for the show? The hours spent misbehaving with and trying to become un-single? In the words of Keanu Reeves, "Whoa..."

Uh... not much to tell really. Life is a blur, but a mostly happy blur. I'm falling behind at work (big surprise) and I learned today that neither Ashley nor Kristin is single, but other than that its all good. Sorry for the sparse and thin posts, but the rule of thumb should always be that no news is good news.

"I'm not expecting to grow flowers in a desert
But I can live and breathe
And see the sun in wintertime"
Big Country, In a Big country

Good lord... without posting something that could cost me my job: we've reached another very busy stage at work. It's fun stuff, but after eleven hours it takes a certain act of will to go out and have a life after work.

But somehow we find a way. :-)

Had a great time in Portland last weekend. Another amazing blues party. Mostly Seattle people. I guess we're all closeted blues dancers.

Spent Cinco de Mayo at a so-so bar with extraordinary company. (Dear Lord, thank you for making Ashley and Kristin).

I just bought my plane tickets for June. I'm flying into Philly on the 16th, heading to Lancaster for a couple of days see the family and then heading back into Philly either Thursday night or Friday morning for the Exchange. If any of yall are around that weekend you should come with, but be prepared to dance!
