James H. Wilkerson is the father of five boys, James (Jimmy) Austin, Robert  (Bobby) Connie, Thomas (Tommy) Allan, Rodney Burl and David Neal.

Four of the five brothers also served in the United States Armed Forces.  Two served in combat, Jimmy in Vietnam, 1968-1970 and Rodney in the Gulf War, Operation Desert Storm against Iraq, 1990-1991.  David did not serve in the armed forces.
