PLAYER PROFILES

Name:  Andy Collins
Nickname:
  Collo
Position:
  Goalkeeper

Signed towards the end of the 2001/02 season, Collo has proved a big influence to the side with his excellent shot stopping abilities and assured displays for the Saints.

Name:  Dave Sturgess
Nickname:  The Badger of Love
Position:  Right-back / Midfielder

Dave's versatility has been put to the test for West End, having started up front and gradually made his way back to his current right-back position which many claim to be his best.

Name:  Adie Gunn
Nickname:  Gunners
Position:  Manager / Left-back

The player manager, having taken over the reigns from former boss Stuart Feest.  Experienced old campaigner, always ripe for a booking for a ridiculous hack on an attacker that has got past him.

Name:  James Mildon
Nickname:  Millsy
Position:  Centre-back

A robust stopper, James is often prone to getting stupidly sent off.  He seems to be showing signs of mellowing though.  Kicks the ball a long way, but couldn't trap a bag of cement.  And just forget about getting him to kick the ball with his left foot.

Name:  Russell Soan
Nickname:  Rusty
Position:  Centre-back

A new signing towards the end of the 2001/02 season, Russell has put in a number of tidy displays at the back.  Now a permanent fixture at centre-half, has developed an excellent partnership with James Mildon.

Name:  Andy Jones
Nickname:  Jonesey
Position:  Left-back / left-midfield

A new signing at the beginning of the 2001/02 season, Jonesey has gone on to produce a number of solid performances for Saints.  Has some competition for the left back berth this season though his assured displays will ensure he starts the season with the number 3 shirt.

Name:  Mark Badley
Nickname:  Badders
Position:  Defender

A new signing this season, Mark turned down a transfer to Senior Division One side Hiltonbury Farmhouse to fight for his place at West End.  A tenacious tackler who always gives 110%, Mark gives manager Adie Gunn a wealth of options at the back.

Name:  Will Winfield
Nicknames:  Willsy, Corpie
Position:  Midfield

Will is the true definition of the term utility-man, having played in every position but up front last season (including a catastrophic game in goal).  This season has seen him revert to his more natural position in the centre of the midfield.

Name:  Charlie Winfield
Nickname:  The Biscuit
Position:  Midfielder

The middle aged of the Winfield triumvirate, Charlie's galloping runs up the right wing have become his trademark.  Bursting with potential, Saints are still yet to see the very best from the mougler.

Name:  Tim Carling
Nickname:  Uptown
Position:  Midfielder

The skipper and heartbeat of the side, northerner Tim has been an inspired signing as his motivational skills have come to the forefront.  A tough-tackling combatant, Tim's diet of raw meat keeps him primed for Sunday morning footballing aggression.

Name:  Grahame Carter
Nickname:  Pasquale
Position:  Midfielder

Signed late last season, Grahame has surged into the first team line-up with some impressive displays in the centre of midfield.  A creative player with a trusty right boot, Grahame gives West End an embarrassment of riches in the midfield department.

Name:  Kev Clarke
Nickname:  Kevvy
Position:  Midfielder

Due to hang up his boots to become Saints' very own Phil Neal, Kev is a no nonsense centre-midfielder who has given great service to the side over the past few years.

Name:  Simon Bates
Nicknames:  Sticks
Position:  Midfielder

A tenacious midfielder with a comedy Brummie accent, Batesey has a bit of a knack of getting himself into trouble with referees, and manager Gunn will be looking for Master Bates to be less petulant this season.

Name:  Jamie Sturgess
Nickname:  Emperor Ging
Position:  Midfielder

A fast and tricky winger with a left foot that could open a can of beans.  Jamie was unlucky to miss a large part of last season through injury, and Saints will hope he can return fully fit for the new season.

Name:  Stuart Feest
Nickname:  Stuey Serious
Position:  Midfielder

The departing manager of the side, Stuart has played in a number of positions for Saints including a long stint between the posts last season, while still finding time to knock in three goals of his own at the other end.

Name:  Dan Egan
Nickname:  Egan Cress
Position:  Striker

Having started last season in central midfield, Dan moved to his more natural position up front to forge a formidable partnership with George Winfield.  Self-styled skipper of the showboat with many a fancy trick in his locker.

Name:  George Winfield
Nickname:  Treadmill
Position:  Striker

Saints top scorer by a distance, George racked up a total of 21 goals last season.  Very skillful and awkward to play against, George has deceptive pace - he is even slower than he looks.
