July 8, 1940-The keel of the U702 is laid in the HC Stülcken shipyards in Hamburg.
September 3, 1941-The U702 is commissioned and joins the 5th Flotilla in Kiel for training.
September 9, 1941-During trials and training, the chief engineer aboard U702 is killed.
March 1, 1942-The U702 is reassigned to the 7th Flotilla in St. Nazaire for active duty, and departs for the submarines first war patrol.
April 3, 1942-The U702 is sunk in the North Sea by a floating mine while en route back to Bergen.
