David and Marsha Grady Family
Our HARRISON Family

Marsha's second great-grandmother was Lousinda "Sindy" L. HARRISON. Sindy HARRISON was born 5 November 1849 in Coffee County, Alabama, the daughter of Henry Moses HARRISON and Lousinda (shown in censuses as Lucinda) KINCHEN (or Kitchen).

Most of Marsha's information on the HARRISON family prior to Henry Moses HARRISON is from other HARRISON researchers and has not been verified by Marsha, therefore that information isn't included on this page, although it does appear in the family tree reports that are linked to this page.

Henry Moses' direct line is as follows:
1) William HARRISON, born abt 1700 in Virginia
        2) James HARRISON, born North Carolina, died 19 February 1806 in
                Edgefield District, South Carolina
                    3) William HARRISON, born 1758, died 1833 in Kinston,
                           Coffee County, Alabama
                                4) Henry Moses HARRISON, born 1815 in Georgia,
died 1885 in Coffee County, Alabama

One of Henry Moses HARRISON's brothers was William "Grancer" HARRISON who is fondly known as the "dancing ghost" of Alabama.

The HARRISON family was in Georgia in the early 1800's and had settled in what was then Dale County, and is now Coffee County, in Alabama by about 1830-1840.

Henry Moses HARRISON married Lucinda KITCHEN or KINCHEN about 1838 in Bibb County, Georgia.

Marsha has been unable to find Henry Moses in the 1840 Federal Census, but by the 1850 Federal Census for Coffee County, he is listed with his wife and children. Henry Moses and Lucinda had seven known children: Gaines HARRISON (born 1839); William HARRISON (born 1843); Henry C. HARRISON (born 1844); Mary E. HARRISON (born 1844); Morris HARRISON (born 1846); Lousinda L. HARRISON (born 5 November 1849); Samantha Clementine HARRISON (born 25 May 1852); Manning D. HARRISON (born 3 August 1853); Simeon HARRISON (born 1857); and Marcus HARRISON (born 20 December 1860).

Henry Moses's family lived in Coffee County very near the MCKINNEY and WHITE families. Several of their children married. Between 1870 and 1890, several of the WHITE and HARRISON families had moved from Coffee County to Monroe County, settling in the Jeddo community and Dottelle community.

Henry Moses HARRISON died about 1885; and Lucinda KINCHEN HARRISON died sometime after 1870 - both are probably buried in Coffee County.

Lousinda HARRISON married Seaborn Jones WHITE about 1866 in Coffee County, Alabama. They are listed with their children there in the 1870 census. They eventually settled in Monroe County, near what is known as Dottelle community, just north of Excel. Seaborn WHITE bought 40 acres of land there.

The WHITE and HARRISON families were apparently active members of Primitive Baptist churches during this time, as they were involved in the founding of at least two churches in Monroe County. First, New Hope Primitive Baptist Church was founded in the Jeddo community. New Hope Church no longer exists, but New Hope Cemetery includes several members of the HARRISON and WHITE families.

In 1899, Seaborn and Sindy WHITE were among the founding members of New Home Primitive Baptist Church, along with their son, David G. WHITE, Sindy's sister-in-law, Mattie FAILS HARRISON (wife of Manning D. HARRISON), Seaborn's sister and brother-in-law, James J. and Jahaza KITCHEN. Seaborn donated the land where New Home Church and Cemetery are now located.

Sindy HARRISON WHITE died 5 January 1923, and is buried next to her husband at New Home Cemetery in Monroe County.

Seaborn and Sindy WHITE had eleven children: Claira WHITE; Henry Robert WHITE; David G. WHITE; James Alexander WHITE; Laura E. WHITE PETTY; Freedonia WHITE GARDNER; George W. WHITE; Aaron J. WHITE; Edward J. WHITE; Wallace M. WHITE; and Ella WHITE (died as an infant).

Additional information on the descendants of Seaborn and Sindy WHITE can be found on Marsha's White Page.
