David and Marsha Grady Family
Our ROBERSON Family

Marsha's great-grandmother was Lyddia "Lyddie" Lee ROBERSON. Lyddie was the daughter of Alfred Bennett ROBERSON and Mary Alice WRIGHT.

Much of Marsha's information on the ROBERSON family is courtesy of first cousin twice removed Freda ROBERSON NOBLE. Freda has been a tireless researcher of all lines of her family and has freely shared her information. Marsha has attempted to give Freda credit in the attached files.

Alfred Bennett is believed to be the son of Tyre (or Tyer or Tye) ROBERSON and Polly SILLS, daughter of William Clement SILLS and Elizabeth THORTON (or THORNTON). Tyre is believed to have been born about 1816 and died about 1842. However, we have been able to find no documentation to support this relationship - our primary source is an elderly relative who has failing memory, so we continue to search for primary sources to support this theory.

This Tyre ROBERSON is possibly the son of a William ROBERSON (1790-1870) and Elizabeth BONNER (1793-1875). William ROBERSON came to Alabama from South Carolina about 1813-1814 and settled in the southwest portion of Lowndes County, near Farmersville.

Alfred Bennett ROBERSON was born 27 July 1839 in Alabama or South Carolina. He married Martha Elizabeth CANTERBURY, daughter of Redding CANTERBURY and Drucilla COCHRON, on 4 July 1861 in Lowndes County, Alabama. Martha bore two children, Hillard McDuffie ROBERSON (born 1866) and William Vergen ROBERSON (born 10 May 1868), and died in childbirth in May 1868. Both of these children were born in Lowndes County, Alabama.

On 21 December 1873, Alfred Bennett married Mary Alice WRIGHT, daughter of John Washington WRIGHT and Elizabeth Ann SOLOMON, at her father's home in Monroe County, Alabama. Sometime after the death of his first wife, probably around the time of his second marriage, Alfred Bennett moved from Lowndes to Monroe County, Alabama, settling in the area just north of Excel.
