Chess Moves

These are two of Splinter's favourite chess moves to frazzle Andre in the park, or any turtle who would be so foolish as to challenge him to a game :o)

Falkbeer Counter Gambit

First he sends a pawn out infront of his king four spaces or so. Next he sends another one out infront a bishop. Stationing the knight behind in background, he allows a pawn to be sacrificed, then sends in a bishop to confuse things further. His opponent gets a better bargin since their knight is in perfect position to take his, and snatches a win of the Exchange- a sad lack of caution when Splinter dives in to grab their rook as well as trap their queen!

Budapest Defence

Splinter often gets trapped by a menacing knight when he has two pawns side by side, but not in a position the cover each other, and a bishop still hanging back in line.Usually he uses the Budapest Defence, allowing a pawn to be snatched with considerable loss of time, giving the bishop a chanse to sneak up, gaurded of course by the remaining pawn, and reek revenge. If he can get enough time, from this position he can work up a mean pawn center, backed by the bishop and it's match. A more conservative line, but effective none the less.

*You may have noticed that in both moves Splinter gives up a pawn, and he takes great joy in exclaiming; 'To crack a good con, one must give up a pawn,' to every one of his irrate victims. As well it goes along with his philosiphy; often we need to give up something (move on) before we may gain another.
