leapingfish.gif (7567 bytes)The first time that I read the little mermaid was in the book of Hans Christian Andersen and I was only 7 years old. I loved those tales and mostly I loved the The Little Mermaid, she has been and still is my hero, and I have watched the Disney Movie just as many times as I have read the book.
leapingfish.gif (7567 bytes) It is hard to choose which Disney Movie is my favorite because they are all wonderful, but I must say that I have been enchanted by star_fish.gif (3249 bytes)the Little Mermaid all my life.

But why???purple_fish.gif (3249 bytes)

When I was a kid my parents moved to a different town from where my grand-parents, uncles, aunts, and cousins lived. We moved south from north Albania in a place where the language had a different dialect therefore I barely understood anyone there and they barely understood me. Nevertheless, my family and I were able to adapt to the "southern" world of Albania, just like Ariel wanted to adapt to her prince charming's world.

Well, I guess that is one of the reasons I started liking the Little Mermaid, I felt she and I were the same because of wanting to be part of worlds we didn't belong to. BUT...why did I continue to like the Little Mermaid even after the teenage years??? One would think that I should have left fairy tales behind with my childhood and teenage years. After all a grown up should understand that prince charming and fairy tales are unreal.

A few months before my 19th birthday, my parents, my sister and I were given the opportunity to legaly move to United States, so we did. My family and I moved to a new world, a very different world from what we knew. I was to try to understand life of a new world, just like the Little Mermaid was to try to understand life of the "outside of the ocean" world. I am still in the process of learning, but it gets easier everyday, and I love this new world of ours.

BUT...I moved to USA years ago, 1997, why do I still love the Little Mermaid with the same passion? Do I still believe in prince charming??

Most definetly. In 2001 I met my prince charming. He is not from Albania :o), and he was not born in USA (although his mom was), he is from Austria. This definetly would have complicated things had I not have learned from the Little Mermaid's soul :o) how to be part of his world and allow him be part of mine. We love discovering new things about each other, and we love building up our own world, a mix of Albanian, Austrian, and American culture.

So I guess this explains my passion about the Little Mermaid, she is my childhood hero and my life has come around as such that allowed her to remain my hero even as an adult. Thank you Ariel!!!

The Disney Movie is very beautiful and as I said I have watched it many times. My father jokes with me telling me that I am old enough to forget about cartoons (although I am sure he likes the movie), but I still remain enchanted by Ariel (now you know why).

star_fish.gif (3249 bytes) In the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale about the Little Mermaid, her body 'dies' by becoming foam of the ocean, but her soul becomes immortal (unusual for a mermaid soul), her soul joins the angels or as the author calls them "the children of the air." If you are curious to read the story as told by Hans Christian Andersen click: READ HERE .

Here are some of Ariel's Disney Movie Pictures, in no particular order. I hope you enjoy them.
