Pictures of My Fruitier Junior College Days

DuPage County, Illinois

After meeting Robin, I finally decided that I knew what I wanted in life — I looked forward to the future with a sense of excitement. I decided I wasn't going to force myself to be something I was not.

Robin and I in Milwaukee for New Year's Eve of 1983

We had met in a small bar/disco/club in Kenosha, Wisconsin during Christmas season of 1982. This was sort of my second "coming out." Although I still had a girlfriend and had to (very badly) explain my way out of a monster hickey some guy named Chad gave me up in Milwaukee after New Year's was over. Robin and I kept in contact for years.

Halloween 1984

Sean, Ken, and Larry. This was taken in 1984. Ken and Larry eventually moved up to LaCrosse, Wisconsin. (More on that later.)

The Going Away Party

1984: My going away present, "Power Jeep." As it turns out, I would learn to hate jeeps (the word comes from World War II, when they were GPs [vehicle, General Purpose] and pronounced, of course, Geep or Jeep). They were usually old and broke down a lot, giving me more work. This thing (the toy here) ended up at the second Going Away Party held at my house — complete with two figurines that someone(s) kept putting one "on top" of the other during that highly mixed-crowd party.

You're Going ?

A short-time friend of mine (met at Hunter's) and his sister. He didn't like the idea that I was going away. He came to the party anyhow. He's one of the last people I saw before leaving town.

Kitchen Crowd

Here's the large part of the Going Away Party crowd. Joy is trying to run (to the right; can't really see but a glimpse of her coat) away from the camera. Rick is on the extreme left. Robin, Don's friend and Don are in the middle, and Ken and Larry are upper right.

Don's Crew

Here's Ken, Dave (Don's brother), Myself and Tim. Tim didn't like me all that much on the account that he liked Don (and Don liked me) at the time. I kept in regular contact with Don, Dave, and Ken while in the Army. Oddly, though, not that much after I came back.

Party Host

Don (who threw the first Going Away Party) and I. He planned this party originally as a surprise, but had to tell me because I was making other plans. At first I told him to call it off, but then I said great, can't miss it. Don and I were almost boyfriends, but it didn't work out. He also did the driving on my last visit to Minnesota. He kept in contact for awhile and then got tired of it all.
