Managing stress (the healthy way)

With competitive figure skating comes a great deal of stress. Compounded with other stressors in life (school, family, relationships, etc.), it can be truly overwhelming at times. Some people, when unable to handle the stress, may turn to maladaptive coping mechanisms such as eating disorders, self-injury or use of prescription or recreational drugs. Obviously, these harmful substances and behaviors will ultimately exacerbate the already stressful situation when they compromise the health of the skater. For this reason, I have decided to include this page on stress management.
