Yule is usually celebrated December 21st and honors the rebirth of the sun & sun god. This sabbat falls on the Winter Solstice, which is the longest night of the year. After this day, the days start getting longer. Yule is the celebration of the coming light and the goddess giving birth to the infant god. This day is a day for honoring the goddess & god for seeing us through the longest day of the year and for the winter ahead. Yule also marks the first day of winter. Many Christmas traditions come from the pagan holiday of Yule, like gift giving, the Christmas tree, wreaths, the colors of green & red and many traditional holiday songs. Evergreen and holly are plants that are associated with Yule. And incense or oils to be used on this day are: rosemary, myrrh, nutmeg, pine, wintergreen & bayberry.
