Odysseus and Polyphemus

All of the creatures who were first created had been banned from the earth with an exception to the cyclopes. They turned out to prove very helpful so Zeus allowed them. At first there were only three, but later there were many. They all lived on a seperate island because they were very dangerous creatures.
On his way back from the destructioln of Troy, the Greek prince Odysseus, and his crew, had beached on this island. They were very weary and in need of food when they happened to notice a cave not to far down the shore. So they went there in search of hospitality. When they arrived, they found no one there but they found lots of food. So they started eating. After a while, the owner finally returned. With him he had a flock of sheep. He entered the cave and placed a large boulder in the entrance of the cave. He then turned to the intruders and bellowed, "Who are you?". They replied, "we are battle weary sailors under the protection of Zeus". With that, Polyphemus stretched out his great hands and grabbed to of the crew and ate them. Satisfied, and protected from harm, he slept.
That night, nothing had come to Odysseus and in the morning they witnessed the same meal as before. Then Polyphemus moved the boulder, took his flock, replaced the boulder, and left. But during this day, Odysseus thought of a plan. There was a large piece of timber in the cave and Odysseus took it and cut off a piece. He then sharpened it and hardened the tip with fire. They then hid it until polyphemus returned. Then again, they witnessed the horrible feast of two more of there crew. Then Odysseus poured some wine he had brought with him into a cup and gave it to Polyphemus. Pleased, he demanded more untill it was all gone. Then with a drunken sleepiness, he fell asleep. The crew took the wood and put the tip into the fire untill it almost burst into flames. Theyu then drove it into Polyphemus's great eye. With a great scream he awoke. After searching for his torturers, he moved the boulder and sat down in front of the entrance waiting for the crew to escape. But Polyphemus had thought of this too. He and his crew grabbed onto the bottom of the flock and when it was let outside, so were they. With all of their energy, they ran to the boat and sailed away from that horrid spot.
