RPM = 3000 Maximum for 470 to 650 cid. Up to 470 cid. 3500 RPM is allowed anything over 650 cid. factory RPMs only. Vehicle must have an ISSPRO #019R8906 magnetic pickup (available from Scheid Diesel 800-669-1934) attached to the front of the engine to measure engine RPM’s. The lead from the pick up to the rear of the vehicle is to be made of 14-16-gauge wire attached to a 100V, 3-prong female electrical outlet. The 2 wires from the pickup need to be attached to the 2 main spades, not the ground spade, of the electrical outlet. This outlet receptacle needs to be mounted next to the rear mounted air shutoff cable. Wire must be one continuous wire outside the side rails and visible. NOT SPLICES.
FUEL = Diesel fuel only.
WATER INJECTION = Water injection is allowed. No combustible agents allowed in water. Anyone caught running anything other than water and a lubricating agent will be disqualified for one year and ten days.
CHASSIS/FRAME = Maximum of 114” wheelbase, unless originally produced with longer wheelbase, then must remain stock length. The maximum length of 13 feet from center of rear wheel to forward-most portion (excluding front hitch). Any OEM modular or composite tractor must meet all component tractor rules.
RIMS = Steel rims are only allowed on the rears, front aluminum rims are allowed on the steer axle. Hubcaps and wheel covers are allowed.
TIRES = Maximum tire size 20.8-38’s or 18.4-42’s for all three classes. Tractors may run cut tires; bias or radial tires are allowed.
SHEET METAL = All sheet metal must be stock appearing and in stock location. Fiberglass nose is allowed. Frame rails must match engine frame rails on a White/Oliver chassis may be used in place of the heavy factory belly pan. (Sheet metal may be upgraded/beautified for cosmetic purposes only. Contact IHFSPA officer or board member for details.)
DRAWBAR = 20 inch drawbar height. Drawbar length can be no shorter than 18 inches form center of axle to the point of hook. Drawbar must have a 3-inch hole with a minimum of 1 square inch of steel at the rear of the hole. Drawbar shall be constructed so that in the event of a breakage the drawbar supports do not pull from a top link above the centerline of the rear axle of the tractor.
WEIGHT BRACKETS = Front weight bracket must be no more than 2 feet in front of nose cone of the tractor. The rear weights must not exceed the back of the rear tires.
WEIGH-IN PROCEDURES = All tractors must weigh in at 9250lbs. If your tractor is not light enough to compete in the 9250lb class you will weigh in at the 12,000lb class level. You may count down to 8000lb and count up to 12,000lb from calculations of your weights.
CERTIFICATION = If you miss the Certification/Weigh-In at the first pull of the year OR announced certification/weigh in location, the following must be followed. You must contact an Officer or Board of Director member, other than yourself, before coming to the pull you wish to first compete at. You must be on time as set by certification member (minimum of 1 hour) before the start of the event. If you do not follow these procedures you will not be allowed to compete in that event.
SAFETY EQUIPMENT
- Factory ROPS for make and model of vehicle. No handmade ROPS are allowed. A SFI spec. 47.1-roll cage with a 5-point harness is recommended.
- All drivers must wear a helmet. If using a SFO spec 47.1 roll cage, FULL fire suit must be worn (full suit includes jacket, pants and shoes)
- Tie bars from frame rail to rear end housing are required.
- Tractors must be equipped with a minimum of 17” wide, 6-strap clutch blanket. Blanket must overlap a minimum of 6 inches.
- Steel flywheel must be used. No cast iron flywheels are allowed.
- A 3-way fuel dump valve is suggested ahead of the injection pump. This valve is to be operated by a cable on the dash.
- All tractors MUST have engine shields.
- All tractors MUST have a deflection shield on both sides of the engine, and cover the entire engine, either aluminum or steel no less than .060” thickness. There must be a firewall that separates the operator from the engine compartment with no holes other than those used controls to pass through. In that instance, each hole is not to have more that ½ inch clearance around the item passing through the firewall. 0.060” thick steel or .120” aluminum must run between the frames and under the harmonic balancer to prevent loss of harmonic balancer from the tractor.
DISQUALIFICATIONS
- Driver does not remain seated during the entire pull.
- Loss of weights during the pull.
- Any object including but not limited to weights falls off the tractor while hooked to the sled.
- Excessive leakage of water, fuel, etc.
- Hitch breaks from sled.
If caught for disqualifications more than 2 times in a pulling season, future pulling is to be decided by the directors with a maximum punishment of disqualification of one year and ten days.
GENERAL RULES
- ALL decisions made by the judges are final. NO UNSPORTSMANSHIP LIKE CONDUCT WILL BE TOLERATED UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.
- Tractors will have two attempts to start the sled as long as they have not gone past the 75-foot mark under power.
- First puller in each class will have the right to either keep or reject the pull or drop to the 1st or 6th position. If puller has a mechanical failure they may drop to last if approved by directors, other than themselves, then they MUST keep that pull no matter the distance.
- Contestants must have a valid driver’s license to enter any contest. If the puller is under the age of 18, he or she must have a written consent of a parent or legal guardian. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
- If the tractor goes out of the pulling track, the measurement will be taken at the point where the tractor went outside of the pulling track and that distance will be used.
- If it is decided by the sled operator or flagman that your pulling tractor is out of control, brakes from the sled may be applied or you will be flagged to stop. If so you will be measured from that point and there will be NO re-hooks allowed.
- If the tractor is running the driver must be in the seat of the tractor.
- Notify at least 2 directors before a pull after changes have been made to tractor, which might affect the weight or safety of the tractor. If not in compliance with this rule you may be disqualified for a maximum of one year and ten days.
- ANY tractor may be protested for engine cubic inch for a fee of $250. 00. IF after tear down the tractor is found to be of legal size, the protested individual will be given the $250.00. If the tractor is found illegal the money goes back to the protester and illegal tractor and driver will be banned from any further pulls for a time of one year and ten days and will lose the accumulated points for that season. Refusal to be torn down will be counted as an automatic disqualification of one year and ten days. The tear down must take place in a secure location.
