September 11th 2001 I wrote this out of frustration in trying to understand why what had happened happened. 'What is it that makes life so enjoyable, so enduring, so great that we lose track of it? Why must we continue on this course, to wander off and become lost only to find our way back? Must life perpetuate in this endless circle of events? You are born, the world is new. You're a child. You start living. You grow older, life gets routine, becomes boring. Suddenly something happens -whether it be great or sad, uplifting or depressing- something happens that lifts your soul, makes you come to realize what life is all about, helps you to understand why things happen as they do and you turn, not to yourself or your God or your loved one, but to the nearest person regardless of race, gender, religious belief, politcal opinion. I remember where I was on that fateful day, when men with powering devotion struck down the mighty beast that plauged their souls -I was with the men and women who perished that day, all of them- I was with them because I had been with God, the Lord our Savior. Something happened that day, something so incredible that it shook the world, yes the entire WORLD! On that day, I believe, every human soul -every American, every Muslim, every Hindu, every Chinese, every Taliban, everyone!- came to terms with something stronger than politics, something more important than revenge, something so powerful that it did indeed force tears from every person's eyes. There is only one thing that can cause this emotion. That one thing that weilds the strength of the world is simply this: life. The word alone holds such influence in the world that every human soul one year ago felt something that, in realizing it or not, changed their life forever. I now know the meaning of life and the value it holds. It is the most important value i can conceive. The world is a tricky place and one can never tell when it will all be over. 'Live life to its fullest' has been said for generations. Only now, though, does it have that profound meaning we searched so long for.' UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL. |
