Illinois 255 is a northern extension of Interstate 255 in the northern areas of the Metro-East. It extends northward from Interstate 270. Before, it terminated at IL143 near Wood River, but recent construction has placed the current endpoint further northward, at Fosterburg Road. This new section of IL255, which passes IL140 and Bethalto, opened to traffic in October 2006.

near Bethalto IL255 currently ends in the north at Fosterburg Road. Plans call for 255 to connect to an interstate-standard extension of US67 from Jacksonville.
