Illinois 6, confusingly close to US6, is actually an interstate-standard highway that continues I-474's loop around Peoria. As I-474 terminates at I-74, IL6 continues, like how IL5 takes the place of I-88 when it's no longer an interstate.
Intersections from north to south:
IL6 begins at a connector to IL29*
IL40 near Alta
US150 (NOT IL91)**
IL6 ends in the south at the interchange where I-474 ends in the west at I-74; continue south through the interchange past I-74, and you will be on I-474 eastbound.
It passes through these towns: None, really. It circles Peoria's north side to the west. Signs that lead you to IL6 North will say "Chillicothe," but you have to get on IL29 before you get there.
Notable places: There is a very nice shopping mall on US150 just seconds west of IL6 (despite what the south side of Peoria may lead you to think).
Despite what a state map may lead you to believe, IL91 actually stops at US150 seconds west of IL6. It's not all at the same interchange.
*-IL6's northern end is built such that it looks like there were plans for the highway to continue northward. The pavement suddenly ends, but before that, there is an interchange connecting to IL29. All traffic is forced off of the highway onto the ramp to IL29 at IL6's northern end.
**-US150 intersects IL91 at an intersection slightly to the west of its interchange with IL6. These two intersections are so close to each other that they seem to appear as one big interchange on many Illinois maps. They are separate, however.
