Family hiking near the site

The gazebo situates at a footpath linking the disused Pinewood Battery and Hatton Road. The site is a turning corner located at about 50m away from the battery, which is at the top of a hill on the opposite side of Lung Fu Shan.

The site is in a natural landscape. Vegetation is mainly tall grasses and bushes. There are only a few small trees in close distance with the site. Birds are rarely seen there, but various insects and flowers can be seen in appropriate seasons. As the site is not enclosed by large trees, it has great view of the western side of Victoria Harbour and wind is always received without being obstructed.

The footpath is not lined with bitumen, but it is still easy for healthy people irrespect of age when climbing up. However, when returning to Hatton Road, many people will take another way going from the other side of the Battery which is lined with bitumen. Thus uphill traffic is busier than downhill traffic at the site.

Visitors around the site consist of all ages, some go together in families, some as couples and the others go alone or with friends. Both Chinese and foreign locals can be seen. Apart from hiking, some youths go up the Battery to play guns. The Battery is regarded as a gathering point for different visitors, and is particularly flooded with people in the Mid-autumn Festival.
