(Earlier…)
After Jodin had placed Mars and RK in Origin, and bound them with a spell to keep them within a 5 foot circle, the two women began to come around.
“Oiyah. Wot happened?” RK asked, groggy.
“Ungh, I dunno.” Mars blearily looked around at their surroundings. “And I think, more importantly, is ‘where in the world are we’?”
RK also looked around, taking in the destroyed interior of the classroom. “Dang. Looks like someone bombed this place.” She struggled to her feet and paused a moment, giving the blood rush to her head a chance to clear. She noticed the broken window, and pointed. “Look, there. Let’s go out there.”
“Yeah, and get the heck outta here,” Mars concurred as she, too, stood up.
The two women moved in unison towards the window, only to run into some sort of unseen wall after taking a couple of steps.
“What the...?” RK said, irritated. She moved her hands along the “wall”.
“What the heck is this?” Mars asked. “It’s like some sort of frickin’ force field.” Mars watched RK for a moment. “You know, you look like a mime, doin’ that.”
“Shut-up. We’re stuck in a freakin' box! And one that we can’t even see! Well, SCREW THAT!”
RK backed up as far as she could in the Invisi-box and made a high-speed charge at the other side. *WHAM* She hit the wall with ferocious force, but to no avail. She staggered back a bit before shaking herself, then backing up for another go. *WHAM* Same results. She went for another try.
Mars watched for a few more hits, until she started to worry that RK might actually hurt herself. “Dude,” she said. “RK! Yo, Numby!” Mars punched RK in the shoulder as she ran past, throwing her off-balance and sending her sprawling to the ground. RK looked up at Mars.
“Ow, Mars. That hurt,” she said while rubbing her arm where Mars’ fist had connected.
“Knock-it off, dude. You were doin’ worse damage to yourself than the Invisi-wall.”
“But… but… maybe if we hit it together…?”
“No freakin’ way, man. I am not running into a wall. Of any kind. For any reason. Understand?”
RK looked down at the floor, dejected. “Yeah, yeah, fine. So, wot do you suggest, then?” RK was answered only by silence. She looked up at Mars. “Mars?”
“…Uh, RK, I think we got another problem.”
RK turned to see what Mars was staring at. “Oh, bugger,” she said.
The two women were surrounded by a ring of Spirits, none of whom seemed too happy to find intruders within Origin.
“Ok, on the count of three, we’re gonna run at the Invisi-wall and try to break through,” Mars said, never taking her eyes from the Spirits.
“But, you just said…”
“Shut-up! We’re gonna run at the Invisi-wall like two battering rams that’re gonna be kindling and have nothing left to live for. Now, one… two…” But Mars was interrupted by the Spirits as they moved in on the trapped women. Mars and RK screamed in unison and somehow managed to avoid the ghosts for the most part.
RK looked about for a weapon within reach and discovered a couple chairs that were partially in their circle. She grabbed them, giving one to Mars, who now had one of her legs captured by the leading Spirit. She took the proffered weapon and swung it at her captor. It passed easily through the being, but distracted him long enough for Mars to scramble away. She and RK stood back to back in the center of the circle, chairs raised as menacingly as possible.
“This ain’t good, dude,” Mars said.
“Yah, I know wot you mean. I feel like a frickin’ lion tamer, only there ain’t no lions!”
“RK! Shut-up! You’re not helping.”
“Fine then. Count to ‘chee’ and let’s do this thing!”
Mars nodded her head, and the two started to count. “Ack, Oop, Eek… CHEE!!” With that as their battle cry, Mars and RK charged as the Spirits descended upon them.
