Decoys Tags for Counter-Strike.

This page includes several special files containing multicolour tags for Counter-Strike (the awesome Half-Life modification).

The Half-Life game engine has a special feature - players can paint monochrome 'tags' (aka decals or sprays). These tags are then visible to other players.The tag images are stored in a file called pldecal.wad. With a little technical know how, it is possible to paint multicoloured tags, by directly manipulating the pldecal.wad file.

The tags on this page change the pldecal.wad file to paint life size multicolour Counter Terrorist /Terrorist/Hostage/VIP characters - decoys - to distract and drain the enemy firepower.


- HOW THIS WAS DONE.

To create your own multicolour tags for Half-Life, see the instructions at WSS. To capture a picture of the game while playing Half-Life, click on the 'PrtScn' key, and paste the image on the clipboard into an image editor. The decoy tags on this page were created using JASC PaintShop Pro, and the Wally Wad editor.


- DECOYS IN COMBAT

There is a long and honourable history of decoy techniques in combat. Recent examples on the net include pictures of dummy troops used by the Allies in WWI to deceive Turkish forces. American troops on exercise in 1984 were fooled into shooting at plastic pictures tied to a scaffold. During the Kosovo war in 1999, the Yugoslav army used dummy soldiers filled with hay. This WWII American War Department Field Manual from 1944 contains instructions for deception using decoys.


- TIPS

Decoys seem to be most effective on sharp corners, at the end of long corridors, or in dark corners.


- TACTICAL OPTIONS

Paint a decoy tag onto a wall, and hide yourself. Wait for the opposition to attack the decoy, and while they fumble with a reload, opportunity beckons...

Paint and run - every round the enemy waste, every time they reload, all the cash they spend on ammo, tips the odds in your favour.




- HOW TO INSTALL THE DECOYS

1. Click on an image below to download a new pldecal.wad containing the decoy - click on the option to save the file to disk. Save the decoy into your
Sierra/Half-Life/cstrike directory.

2. Alternatively; right click on the image and select "Save Link As" or "Save Target As". Save the decoy into your
Sierra/Half-Life/cstrike directory.



3. Start Counter-Strike, and start spraying decoy tags! (The default key is 'T').

4. Drop me a line if you manage to create a better decoy :-P.
