SWORDS

ACE of SWORDS

The Ace of Swords is a welcome card in a reading and indicates an ability to center your conscious powers and the power of a directed mind. All ideas are consolidated into one major line of thought as you make a firm decision concerning the subject of the reading. Relying on your own judgement, you confront opposing opinions without the splintering quality of the Five of Swords. You take all the swords and forge them into one, creating a clear channel between thought and action. You define and concentrate your attitude toward your goals instead of being scattered and misdirected. You know what you want and how to proceed with the matter.

Though the sword is two-edged and can cut both ways, its point is encircled by a crown from which hangs the olive branch of peace and the palm frond of victory.

TWO of SWORDS

The Two of Swords is a quiet card where you uphold the decision of the Ace. It represents alliance on blind faith to deliver a preferred result in a matter. Whatever the prevailing conditions maybe, you may trust in your power of concentration to reach a goal. As you cannot deduce what will occur, you have to believe in an unreal outcome in an unknown future.

You are the only person who possesses this certainty, other people may not share the depth of your vision. You cannot hope to receive positive feedback from them because they are not as interested as you are in your personal goals. Your beliefs may create a barrier of tension in your communication with others.

No matter what anyone else says, you must constantly return to your private inner confidence. When the Two of Swords appears, go ahead and maintain this intellectual burden, concentrating on the result you want. Apply yourself with intense certainty, though it may be hard to keep the faith when nothing seems to be coming together.

The young woman seated on the bench is blindfolded and cannot see. Behind her is a sea of emotions, from which jagged rocks of hard facts jut out. Her raised swords are balanced , but she is in a precarious situaion.

THREE of SWORDS

The Three of Swords represents a time of weeping and purification where your most delicate feeling pour forth. Rich in tears and sorrow, it symbolizes deep feelings derived from soulful melancholy. this can result in music, poetry and other artistic expressions which are capable of stirring the emotions of many people. This card speaks of a continual depth of feeling which lets you reach with compassion into the heart of any matter.

The Three of Swords can indicate a distance between you and an individual or activity which needs to be bridged. It could be a physical separation, a feeling of rejection or abandonment or a painful misunderstanding. Consider the events leading up to the rift and realize the importance of healing the alliance.

Another interpretation is the remorse you feel when alienated from your true nature, never having made the right choices for personal happiness. You realize that your current lifestyle does not reflect who you truly are or what you really want from life.

FOUR of SWORDS

From the tension of the Two of Swords and the piercing of the Three, you relax and withdraw with the Four of Swords. You need to disappear from view and avoid communication for the time being. By distancing yourself and holding back, you achieve a more accurate picture of the situation. This matter has troubled you for some time and your confusion can be resolved through enforced solitude.

The Four of Swords does not necessarily mean you are alone, you may be surrounded by people. It shows how your private concerns make you a separate entity, operating outside your immediate social circle. Gain strength through a retraction of your swords, escaping all argument for the peace of silence. Solitude will give you time to reflect on the details uninterrupted. Pull yourself together in a stable mental state through meditation.

FIVE of SWORDS

The Five of Swords symbolizes a splintered quality of the air due to the input of others. Their opinions weaken your decision making ability because you consider their views before your own. Until you learn to discriminate, your intellectual force will be fragmented, making it impossible to proceed in any one direction.

People frequently project their own fears and doubts as well as their inner beauties. They play a dynamic role in your environment but ultimately you must rely on the opinion of your own inner voice. the goal here is to consciously dominate your turf. This card can degenerate into a battle where your opponent overlooks the fact that neither is right or wrong or will stop to listen to possibilities to restore harmony.

Storm clouds fill the sky as a warrior looks back scornfully at the adversaries whose swords he has captured. The subject of the reading may be either the conquered or the conqueror, depending on the rest of the spread.

SIX of SWORDS

The appearance of the Six of Swords indicates that the mixed up time of the Five of Swords has passed. You have left the overwhelming muddle of opinions swiftly and easily. You are rushed forward on a journey into your personal evolution. You realize there is a path to follow, this triggers an awareness of the supportive channels open to you.

You now possess the necessary information to find the quickest pathways to your goals. The books are now open and knowledge is within your reach. In a reading this card can sometimes indicate that something is too easy. The Six of Swords refers to facts of knowledge realized during your travels. All of your experiences now enlighten you, giving you the know-how to fuse all information and connections into a network.

A ferryman carries a woman and child across the water to the calm of the farther shore, leaving turbulence in their wake.

SEVEN of SWORDS

The activity of the Five is completed with the Seven of Swords where you establish your own philosophy. You find pleasure in the uniqueness of your own ideas and this guides you through opposing social conditions. Rather than imitate the intellectual tendencies of others, you break through philosophical conditioning and find security in your own view point.

Over a long period of time you have weighed and considered every objective and narrowed down your choices. Now you are inclined to slip away contradictory schools of thought represented by the philosophies of other people. You leave as an individual  with conviction, no longer comfortable in their social atmosphere. The individual path you have chosen cannot flourish under their rigid status quo.

When you see no room for innovation in the endless battling cycles of communication, it is time to seek a new environment which gives you freedom to develop intellectually.

EIGHT of SWORDS

The Eight of Swords turns up to warn that you are your own worst enemy. You have intellectually imprisoned yourself by prematurely getting involved in something before you have free will to act in the matter. You may find it impossible to communicate with someone you need to speak with or your freedom of movement is impaired preventing physical contact.. If any messages get through, they will be unclear and garbled, misunderstood, misrepresented or altogether the wrong story.

The isolation, confusion and self-induced unhappiness developing with the Eight of swords has a purpose. You are in this state for your own protection, to avoid pitfalls or people you should not see and miss events that would deter you. What you are kept away from would prevent movement toward your objective determined by the Ace of Swords.

This period of misunderstanding is important. You are being given time to mature. Though this card implies restrictions, it also portends breaking free from complications which have held you back. The appearance of the Eight of Swords in a spread indicates release from a time period of this condition.

NINE of SWORDS

The Nine of Swords has roots in the Three, where a sensitive, probing mind can go very deep in search of understanding. It represents mental agony caused by your ignoring a truth for so long that when the reality of a situation enters your consciousness, it does so painfully.

The anguish of this card leads to thoughts that nobody loves you or cares for you. The insensitivity of others wounds you, making you feel that they are deliberately trying to hurt you. As you learn more about yourself, you will see how your over-sensitivity has misinterpreted this unkindness as your fault. You realize that by interpreting the disregard of others personally, you have placed yourself in the position of victim, worrying needlessly about what other people think.

The Nine of Swords can teach acceptance of criticism which is normally felt as an injury. When your faults are abrasively pointed out by someone unconcerned with delicacy of emotion, try to acknowledge any truth in their words without lapsing into personal agony. The message here is to continue to be strong and resolute, though the world seems without love or caring. If you stay strong, these moments of isolated sorrow will not drain your vital energy. Instead, the discoveries of this card will help you gain greater awareness of your true self.

TEN of SWORDS

In response to the anguish of the Nine you reach the end of the line with the Ten of Swords. You must conclude your involvement in the matter or else suffocate.  You are physically ruined by the intensity of the situation.. Your mind is exhausted and cannot handle being overworked anymore. This signals that you have reached a permanent stalemate. Found in the past in a reading, this would indicate having achieved the widest view of the matter to integrate intellectually.

Your dissipation is valuable because of the distance traveled on your mental power. Your mind has been stretched to its outer limit, constantly forced to work beyond its capabilities. At the end of this grueling exercise, you will have more wisdom and gain a total understanding of what has been causing the anguish.

This is what the Ten of Swords is all about. Nothing is easy. Knowledge and wisdom always come in the wake of great difficulty. You go through endless hours of thought until every angle of the predicament is evident.

PAGE of SWORDS

The Page of Swords can indicate receiving a phone call or message  which serves to communicate important information.. As a personality, this Page watches and observes, exercising caution. he may be a spy in your sphere or an untrustworthy bearer of bad news. Whoever this card symbolizes, does not utilize the normal procedure for communication between two parties. Facts are conveyed through channels requiring diplomacy, whether underhanded or undercover.

The Page of Swords could be someone who is testing your reaction to dramas they created for this purpose. Or YOU may be watching the behavior of another person in a calculated manner. This card also speaks of circumspection and consideration of alternate plans of action for the inquirer in a reading.

Another aspect of this Page is your super-intelligence, your subconscious mind which contains the genius and brilliance leading to magnificent creations, profound dreams, bursts of intuition and moments of great clarity. this is your higher self which communicates messages through the abstract medium of words and pictures.

KNIGHT of SWORDS

The Knight of Swords symbolizes the insecure mind that refuses to take another's feeling or opinions into account. he thinks he knows the best way to race toward his destination, attacking anything so unfortunate to cross his path. If you get in the way of his swinging sword, he will strike you down. he is so self-absorbed on his obsessive journey, he loses the enjoyment of the richness all around him.

He  listens to no one else because he thinks he knows everything. He lacks self-confidence ( as do all Knights) in his own beliefs. His silent haste masks his weakness, preventing exposure of his gentler, more vulnerable side. The dangers of this card are stubbornness, cruelty or disrespect toward people who are trying to help you.

On a more positive note, the Knight of Swords can symbolize being totally directed toward a goal which is beneficial to success.

QUEEN of SWORDS

The Queen of swords has a cold, emotionally detached way of dealing with the world. She assumes an aloof, intellectual stance, fascinated by animated dialogue and interrelationships. Interested in ruling channels of information, she will shrewdly tell two different stories to two different parties.

The Queen of Swords is interested in power and control, as is her counterpart, the King, and manipulates conditions to her advantage. If you are opposed to this type of individual, stand firm regardless of the mounting tension between you. She can handle it, she likes to battle intellectually and will continually twist the truth to reflect her favorably. She is a hard woman to contend with, her air of spite and disinterest will naturally undermine your own security.

In a reading, the Queen of Swords speaks of standing up to people, making demands and being clear about your own needs. You may be thought of as harsh and difficult, but this behavior is necessary.

KING of SWORDS

Similar to the King of Cups, the King of Swords carries an aura of intimidation. Both are silent and serious Kings.  by tradition, the King of Swords is an expert on law, politics, society or communication. Wherever he is found, he exercises power in the eyes of the world. he is often in a position to pass judgements, placing those around him in awkward and vulnerable spots, unless he is seen as a mentor who has much to teach.

He is emotionally cold, as is the Queen. He shuns romantic involvement where he fears losing control of his mind by opening his heart. If you are in love with this person, you will be secondary to his intellectual interests and his forceful ego. He likes to imagine romance more than act on it. With his calculated wisdom, he may avoid intimacy because he knows the relationship will suffer from his chronic aloofness.

The King of Swords is happiest with a life of stimulating work following high ideals. As a person of tremendous intellect, he is excited by knowledge and devours facts in search of abstract truths which are his obsession.
