I've tried to compile a list of subjective feedbacks about
the 206. The aim of this section is to provide criticism about the car so
potential buyers know what they're getting. I'll try to find something on every
model available. So if you're car's feedback isn't listed here please send it to
me so it can be included on the site for the benefit of all.

1.4L 8V XR PRESENCE
I own a 206, 5 door 1.4 liters engine. My car is still at
factory settings and i haven't added anything to it yet. So the feedback here
applies to a 206 that just got out of the dealer's.
The looks
Well, i think this is one of the most important
things to deal with when it comes to buying a new car. Undoubtedly, the 206 has
a very attractive look (specially when nicely polished :P). I don't know why,
but Peugeot tends to make those 1.4 cars look like 4x4's, i'm seriously
considering lowering my car a few centimeters.
Peugeot fits it's new models with 14" wheels which is
much better than the 13" they used to put on.
The inside
Let's talk about the interior a little. New models of the
206 1.4 come with double airbag (which wasn't the case before), the driving
wheel looks quite neat with the airbag on. The black dials on the dashboard are
quite attractive too and are red illuminated, which makes them look great at
night. Overall, the interior is quite spacious --for the front seats-- and the
car looks and feels like it is much bigger. One thing to note however, is that
if you're more that 6' tall, avoid the back seats.
The handling
Aha... because 1.4's come with high chassis, they're
handling is... ahem... quite tricky... it was 2 am and i was driving back home
at about 100km/h on an empty highway and i suddenly had to BRAAAAAAKE!!! the car
went wild, i managed to stay in control, however, but i was really disappointed
about how it handled. I think my 206 is quite light and it feels like you're
going to take off when driving at high speeds. I'm sure the S16 (Gti) don't have
that problem.
More... my 206 takes turns quite nicely, but the thing is...
it knocks you out of your seat.. i've learned to get a grip on the handbrake to
stay in position while cornering at medium to high speeds.
The engine
A 1.4 litre may seem small to some drivers, but it
is more than enough for me, I use my car mostly for crowded city driving and
don't really need a roaring 2.0 16V engine. Now, the first thing i noticed when
i turned on my car was the engine sound. i must admit those 16V do sound better
and if you were used to driving a 16V (like me) you'll notice quite a
difference. You eventually get used to the sound the engine makes, but i have to
admit, it remains a little noisy, specially when you rev it up to more that
4500.
The performance of a 1.4L 8V is ok, i
manage to pass quite a few cars even when going up mountains, and i'll say my
car's performance is comparable to 1.6L engines of other brands.
Conclusion
Overall, the 206, 1.4 8V is a good car, when you don't need that much engine
power. Handling is ok at average speeds and the car looks good too. However, i'm
sure that added features both to the engine and to the esthetics (spoiler, color
coded mirrors etc...etc...) could make it a car a lot of you would like to
have...
Should you buy it?
Definitely, but if you have some money, get the S16, looks great, feels great...
that 206 is ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC.

PEUGEOT 206 XSi 16V
I took delivery of My Peugeot 206 XSI
16v in Moonstone blue with full SP kit on 27/01/01,
It was the according to the dealer the second XSI on the road in the
UK. I ordered mine the day it was officially released, but anyone who
ordered theirs after this would have to wait an extra 2 - 3 weeks, as
Peugeot where having problems building the new engines and the further
delays were occurred as the alloy wheels could not be produced to meet
demand. Now delivery is better with expected waiting periods of 3 -4
weeks, depending on colour, longest wait is Black, China Blue, Silver and
Moonstone Blue. Peugeot have pointed out that they want this to be a niche
model like the old 306 XSi, which held it's value better than any other in
the 306 range. Peugeot say they are only going to supply this car in
restricted numbers as not to de-value it. Peugeot had the best selling car
in the 206 in 2000 selling 57238 to private buyers, so Peugeot are aware
there will be a big supply on the used car market. The XSI was a replacement model for the 206
XS, differences were, Upgraded interior with new cloth trim, Full leather
is an option, but you just slide out the seat, and as it is black then you
don't want to sit on it in the summer, not that we have much of a summer.
Chrome door handles, and gear knob top; 15 " alloys with Pirelli
P6000 185/55/15 but Peugeot have started to fit the cheaper but wider
(195/55/15)rain tyres from continental. New 1.6 16v 110 BHP engine,
increased performance, but lower co2 and fuel consumption; Clear
polycarbonate headlights, these give much better light, but tend to blind
the driver in front; ABS with EBFD.

I have only had use of my XSI
for three weeks, as some idiot in a 106 XSI decided to hit me up the back.
In the 3 weeks it was on the road, I had three problems,
1. Fuel gauge would not fill
to the top. According to Peugeot this is a problem on Peugeot 306
cabriolet models, but has not affected any other cars. Well not until now,
as it affect mine and a friends 206 XSI. Peugeot say that the tank is full
but the gauge does not read correctly, of course as usual they have no
idea on how to fix this! I was informed however that this problem is due
to a fault with the electronics in the fuel tank as it is having
difficulty reading how much fuel is in the tank.
2. The car would need an extra
shove of the gas pedal to get it started in the morning and it would take
5 minutes to re-start if the engine had only just been turned off. Peugeot
did fix this but never informed me of the problem.
3. Mis-firing / Stuttering problem, I have
only noticed this while changing gears at very low revs or very high revs,
through the middle of the rev range it is fine. Peugeot say this is due to
the severe poor climate we have been experiencing, that there is so much
standing water that it got into the engine and caused these problems, they
also reset the ECU. Sure enough the next day the same happened. This is an
intermittent problem as it only appears maybe 3-4 times a journey.
Enough of the bad points though, This car
has really amazed me, It sticks to the road like glue, you can provoke
under steer, put you need to really push it. The traditional Peugeot lift
off over steer has all but disappeared, the only way I have found to get
the rear out is by using the handbrake, and what a handbrake it is,
Warming the front tyres up has never been so easy. The interior although
not made form the best qualities is squeak free and feels well built. The
engine had covered 1190 miles before entering the hospital to get fixed. I
had given it a fair old going over, the pull in gears is noticeable
better, especially 3rd. I had seen 123 m.p.h on a straight with a head
wind and 129 m.p.h on a down hill stretch, but allowing for a 10 %
inaccuracy, they speeds are actually approx 110 m.p.h & 116 m.p.h so
the car still needs to loosen up.
Hopefully after approx 6 week wait so far,
and a further 3 weeks to go, "the insurance company are crap" my
car should be back on the road, I have taken the opportunity to get it
fully colour coded as I hate the black boot opener, black front & rear
bumpers, black side strip and black door handles, So when it comes out it
should look slightly better.}
