Cartland

Cartland

Cartland is a natural. Although he grew up in the capital of Iceland, Reykjavik, his connection with the forces of nature was always strong, since the Icelandic countryside is just a an hour's walk from this small city. He used to drive to Heidmork, a beautiful area near Lake Ellidi, sit down in a peaceful hollow with his guitar and write music. His inspiration was silence.

Cartland, whose real name is Ivar Jonsson, was born in the Faedingarheimili in Reykjavik in 1974. He lived on Leifsgata 8 from the time he was four until he was nine. Then he moved to Alftamyri and consequently started going to Alftamyri School. There he met Danni, a friend he has lost track of. He also became friends with Einar Pampichler and he had a big crush on Maeja.

In 1986 he moved to the Fossvogur Valley (Hjallaland 23, to be more exact) and changed to Fossvogur School. All of a sudden he was surrounded by Vikings. This was not good, since he was a Framari. But life went on and he graduated to Rettarholts School and finished grunnskoli. Then he went on to the Commercial College of Iceland and now he studies economics at the University of Iceland.

In 1992, Cartland formed his first band, appropriately named Lunch. In 1995 they changed their name to Blome and recorded a 13 track album; "The Third Twin". Despite critical acclaim, it didn't sell very well, due to lack of promotional enthusiasm. Two years later they changed their name to Supermono and Jonas Blank Records in Philadelphia released a 7" vinyl of theirs called "Elemental Tendencies".

In the year 2000, the band broke up following a disastrous affair with a so called "international record company with offices in 24 countries"; Raspberry Records. It turned out to be a scam, masterminded by some maniac.

And now he's here, solo, with the 11 track album "Songs from the German Years" on Hello Doll Records. Those songs are more or less new, although some of them date back a few years. His songwriting has progressed a lot lately and he likes it. Enjoy.
