Mark of the Month

What is a Mark? To me, a mark is the greatest person in the world to be. Yesterday I sat down, reading PWI Magazine and wished that I took could still be a mark, taken in by the whole spectacle, not anaylzing it to the very core. Marks are clueless to the aspect of the sport itself, they are too into the glamor and the spectacle of the show. They don't care about stats, jobs or anything for that matter.

But the only thing better than being a Mark, is being the fan in the crowd watching those marks. At an indy event it is wonderful. Thirty year old men with Chyna shirts on that read 9th Wonder of the world, they long to slap hands with all the wrestlers. They cheer the heels blindfully, as do they cheer al the faces. They get worked up into a frenzy when the faces are cheated out of a match, and autographs by the wrestlers to them might as well be considered gold.

Then you have younger children, completely ignorant by the sport. They come thinking they will see wrestlers like the Rock and HHH, whom they see on TV. Instead, they are given a much better show then they can ever imagine. So close to the action, they see nothing better in the world then to cheer every move, every facial expression, every taunt the wrestler makes, that is if they aren't too distracted hitting their friend with the inflatable Austin 3:16 doll they bought at the concession stand.

Then you have the teenage Mark, probably the most embarassing of all the marks. They chant whenever a wrestlers takes a bump, when he misses a spot, or if they feel they have something going that the crowd will chant with them on. Basically it's nonstop chanting. They talk a good game about WCW and WWF, and seem to think if they know those two federations, they know wrestling. The cheer every move, every hold, every counter the wrestler makes, thinking they are truly Smart, but they are still a Mark.

Now I love marks, they fill the seats, they cheer on the wrestlers and help them improve on their characters. It's people like me who wrestlers probably despise, I find their weak spots early on and I nag them about it for the rest of the match. If they job to somebody embarassing it will never leave my mind. Where am I all going with this? With every wrestler of the month, federation of the month, tag team of the month, there should be a mark of the month. Someone so clueless, so funny to watch that it is almost an entertainment in itself to be at the show.

Mark of the Month # 1

This man can be seen at any show at Pottstown, PA. His name is *fill in name here*. He wears anything from Chyna the 9th wonder of the world t-shirts to bandanas of Hulk Hogan which he wears around his leg. He has photo albums that he brings to the shows of the show he went to in Pottstown before. He'll be at the show at least 2 hours before the doors open so he can be the first one in there. Once inside he makes sure to get a front row seat. Once there he acts as the official Janitor/Security for the show as he tells kids to stay away from the barricades and if anything is thrown or left in the ring, he willingly jumps out of his seat, slides into the ring and disposes of the trash. He cheers all the good guys, pops everytime they counter their opponent, and boos all the bad guys.

Last show I saw him at, was for Steve Corino's PWF, Pennsylvania Wrestling Federation. The moment of the night was when Mikey Whipwreck won the TV Title after the time limit for the match had long since expired, and he jumped way into the air waving his fists, he ran over to the entranceway to give Mikey a high five. But once the official came out and announced that the time had expired, he started to scream, and I mean scream at the ref. He then teared for a minute before putting his head down. But wait, he tops himself.

During the main event between Jack Victory and Steve Corino, Jack reaches for a chair but *NAME* decides to take it upon himself and grab the chair from Jack's hands, because it's only fair. I mean he was about to cheat, right? Wrestling is real, right?
